So a friend and I are going to the USC/ND game this year and plan to stay in Chicago. Where is the best place to stay without staying downtown? My buddy wants to stay near O'Hare because it is more cost effective, is this a good idea? Figure we can uber into/out of downtown.

Also, has anyone taking the train to ND for games? Best bet or just rent a car?

Are you going to hang around for awhile before or after the game, maybe do things like eat or party, or both at a tailgate?

Are you avoiding downtown because you think Negroes will kill you, or the cost or both? hint, the cost part is real.

Back in 2015 a bunch of University of Texas fans came up for the ND UT game, stayed downtown, went to a Cubs game, drove to the ND game, tailgated, had a great time, didn't die, spent a lot of money.

Why are you not wanting to stay downtown? There are plenty of completely reasonable hotel options in the city (and you don't have to waste money on Uber/cab/the L). Staying by O'Hare sucks, there is **** all out there and then you waste a ton of time ferrying back and forth whenever you want to actually do something.

The South Shore Line will get you from the Loop to South Bend Airport, after that I have no clue.

No, just cost. It's half the price near O'Hare than downtown.

How you looked into Airbnb? If it's just you and a buddy that needs a place to lay your head down, you can probably find a pretty cheap apartment or room for rent.

Anywhere between Garfield and 79th, between the Dan Ryan Expressway and Western.

You'll find great accommodations. A hop, skip, and a jump from Marquette Park for a fun family picnic in the afternoon. Easy access to I-90/94 to hop off anywhere near Downtown.
Not far from Oak Woods Cemetery, where great Olympian and activist, Jessie Owens was put to rest.
Near from Hamilton Park, where you can find great deals on medication.
Experience games for the kids in Ogden Park, named after Chicago's first Mayor(so you know they want to preserve and keep this place safe), where the family can really get into that Chicago culture, dance to some great beats at all hours of the day. Don't forget to stop in at nearby Homies Kitchen, rated 3.5 on yelp and will aim to please anyone from out of town.

We also have a saying in this part of town that will get you an in with the local folks. Just shout 'La Raza' with a smile and give anyone who gives you a look with any hand gesture you like(keep it clean, no flipping the birds). Thus assuring you make new friends. La Raza stems from a shortened term from an old Latin Chicago saying; The people make the city great. Feel free to say it as much as you like, and if someone says it to you, respond with GD (gee dee), what we shorten for 'good day'.

Enjoy your trip and check back in with us.

Last but not least, make sure everyone on the trip knows their blood type. At the local sports bars, most people don't like that boring zodiac sign BS, we want to talk basic A,B,Os.

We have people here like Burque that would actually believe this.

For the record, CCS, Crystal was "trolling" with this, and this advice should not be followed. You could literally die if you say "gee dee" and throw up hand signs at some of the underprivileged folks of that area. Please dont fall for this Treehorn...

Hey now, I survive just fine in big New Mexico.... I would be ok in little old Mexico.

That was a curios post though, not knowing the Chicagoland area I was left wondering if there had been a renaissance in some part of town or something until he started talking about throwing up signs...

I'd head for the West Garfield or Austin area.

You can see from this map, that it's easy access straight down the Ike to SF.
