Probably Garza, but Byrd and Soriano could be possibilities.

If we deal Soriano, it'll be much like Zambrano's deal -- eating upwards of 75% of the remaining balance of his contract in hopes to get a mid-tier prospect in return. I could definitely see him going to a team like Seattle, Baltimore or maybe Minnesota with them sending back a middle-of-the-road prospect. Hopefully he'll be the next to go, as his deal ridiculously toxic.

I've said it before -- unless somebody gives us a Godfather offer on Garza, let's keep him and try to get an extension done. He'd be a fantastic #2 for the foreseeable future. Byrd? Meh, I'm not sure dealing him would land us anything significant.

Fonzie to the O's
Byrd to the Red Sox
Garza to the Tigers

I'm not saying it will go in that order, but I think both of the OF will go. I'm not so sure about Garza now.

I've also heard that teams are still interested in Marmol and Soto. Dealing those two guys to the Angels (who were rumored to be pretty interested in both) for.... say, some combination of Mark Trumbo, Peter Bourjous or Kendry Morales would be an absolute slam dunk in my book. With Pujols in town, Morales and Trumbo would both be expendable to some degree. The Angels bullpen was horrible last year, and Marmol could add some stability at the end of the game next to Jordan Walden. I personally don't think Hank Conger or Jeff Mathis are an answer at catcher, and maybe a change of scenery for Soto would do him some good. The thought of Bourjous patrolling the outfield with Brett Jackson would be bangin'.

They did have interest in Marmol, but they probably don't anymore after they acquired Andrew Bailey.

I think Byrd could be moved at some point. He's more movable than Soriano. Cubs will probably be content to wait until the absolute last minute to pull the trigger on a Garza deal if they're still inclined to do that.

I sort of feel like if we can get Rizzo for Cashner, we have a slight shot at actually getting the type of package Thed wants for Garza.

Also why would we be interested in Trumbo or Morales after getting Rizzo?

Depth. You gotta know who your 8th first baseman will be, y'know.

I say Byrd will be next to go. Then possibly Garza, but I heard the Cubs want at least Three A-List prospects for Garza.

Bailey went to Boston, not Los Angeles.

The Angels have already talked about moving Trumbo to third base or left field, especially with Torri Hunter and Vernon Wells being on the decline. Obviously, him and Morales are both expendable at this point, but with Trumbo having a great year and not all the injury issues like Morales has had the last two years, it'd make sense they'd want to hold onto Trubmo instead.

Their lack of a true catcher is obvious. Conger could turn into something, but Chris Ianetta and Bobby Wilson are nothing special. Soto would give them a guy who's proven he can be a good catcher. Marmol would add depth with Jordan Walden, Scott Downs and Rich Thompson. I think this would add positives to both teams without truly subtracting anything substantial.

Yeah I know Bailey was. I thought you said Boston in your post. Maybe because I was talking about Boston in my post and thought you would too lol. My bad!

The Angels still have interest in Marmol, but I don't know about Soto. Since they acquired Ianneta from the Rockies.

What about a Marmol/Aybar base trade? He's a little older at 28, but not too bad.

I sorta feel like we'll hold on to Byrd until Jackson is ready (June?) and move DeJesus to CF

Why do that when Brett Jackson is a CF? Don't marginalize the kid's value.

I understand why the Angels want to trade Morales or Trumbo. I don't see how either is fit for the Cubs. I guess Trumbo could play in left, but that wouldn't be pretty defensively. Morales is coming off a serious ankle injury, so asking him to play something besides first is probably a bit of a stretch.

Agreed. Read at least one report that suggested Jackson doesn't have the arm to play right. If Jackson can't stay in center, left is the most likely position he could play which would seriously limit his value. No reason why Jackson shouldn't be at least adaqueate in center defensively as far as I know.
