Why are Bears requesting coaching interviews prior to hiring a GM?

I've been a bit out of the loop today so I've only caught bits and pieces of what has gone down. But, sounds like they have requested interviews with at least two coaches (Frazier/Pederson) and at least one GM (Brown). Maybe requesting the coaching interviews is just a formality and they are actually several weeks a way, but it doesn't make much sense to me to hold these interviews until a GM is on board. Obviously, the Frazier interview can't happen until the Bills are done. What's the game plan here? I know the Bears are dysfuntional, but even they aren't dumb enough to hire a coach without a GM. Right?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Real Salt Lake
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Utah Jazz
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Utah Utes
Has been the trend the past few years. Get a GM that will work well with the HC etc. feels counter to the ideal way but has been done more recently. They did mention GM will pick HC

It's literally backass-towards and then flip flopped and spun around to the opposite of how things are supposed to work unless they already have a hand-shook deal with a GM who don't care whomst the coach is?

Coaches of the caliber of Harbaugh and McDaniels are going to want a say in the GM. Not that they still wouldn't direct report to them and let the GM make the decisions. But a high caliber coach WILL want to have influence. Kinda backwards, but it also makes sense.

Seem backass-wards, but since when have the Bears been a organization that does things that would make sense?

theyre just requests…who knows when the interviews will actually happen.

we might have a gm in place fairly quickly. pace was hired in 10 days back in 2015.

It's a procedural timeline thing: put in as many requests as you can muster so that approval is granted and you can get the interviews in as they become available.

There is quite literally no point in only putting in requests for GM, then waiting until they get hired, then putting in HC request, then waiting for those approvals, then hoping they aren't off the market yet. It's simpler to get all requests out of the way, then when the GM hire is made you go directly to the HC interviews rather than waiting for approvals.

This is a big reason. Also, things move quick in the NFL and getting the first round out of the way will give ownership background and allow the coaching hire to go faster if a new GM needs to move quick. They may want to use it as an evaluation tool for the GM interviews. They may want to get a Coach's thoughts on the roster.

There's good reasons to do it, just don't know if these guys are doing it for the right reasons.

They haven't requested to interview either of those guys yet. Are you saying that Frazier and Pederson are the caliber of coaches that demand having a say in GM duties?

No, I literally didn't.
So, your post has nothing to do about the bears because Harbaugh nor McDaniels have been requested to interview for the job.

Sorry you are struggling to comprehend the answer to your initial question. I promise that I will pray for you. One love.

Did you not hear what George said? He’s going to pick the GM and HC. Maybe HC before GM. That’s why.

I’d assume this is just so they can get the interviews they want in the most timely manner. They can’t wait to hire a coach until after they hire a GM because it would take too long. They want to make sure they get interviews with the guys they want. And I’ve never really thought the GM picked the coach for the Bears anyway. The people picking this coach are the same people that have picked the last however many coaches for the Bears. (With polian added too I guess. Polian is the consultant everybody is talking about right? Or is Polian in there along with other consultants? I don’t even care really.)

I missed the presser. Drop the attitude

still seems like a poor idea. You hire a guy like Leslie Frazier and a top GM candidate may say 'Thanks, but no thanks, I'm gonna wait for a better opportunity'
