Some people just have a death wish. I understand what he wants to do, but I dont care how much of an expert you are, you dont **** with shit like this to prove a point and hang out with dangerous predators.

You need only look at timothy treadwells example to see, no matter how much experience you have and how much you think you know, shit happens.

I always think about Steve Irwin and his fascination with Crocs and all the dangerous things he did. Some people just like the excitement of living on the edge. They thrive on danger like it's an aphrodisiac to them.

TSD you are just afraid of sharks. Also unless you are a surfer the GWS is pretty harmless. Coastal sharks are a lot more dangerous. Bull Sharks are particularly nasty unless you are in that one New Zealand town where the sharks live in the brackish river. Worst they do is nip and ankle and people swim in that water with no fatalities.

Reef sharks are rather aggressive too. I think it is the White Tip Reef Shark is highly territorial and has an aggressive pose that is a warning, it arches its back.

Actually it is the Grey Reef Shark that does that display. Best known for its spectacular agonistic display, the Grey Reef Shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) is pugnacious all out of proportion to its modest size. The agonistic display in this species ranges from mild to extreme, depending upon degree of escape route restriction. This display is elicited in approach-withdrawal conflict situations and appears to be ritualized from movements and postures associated with overpowering prey. It features rolling or spiraling during laterally exaggerated swimming while lowering the pectoral fins, raising the snout, and arching the back. The display is highly stereotyped and seems to communicate that the shark ‘feels’ threatened — warning the receiver to “come no closer”. If the receiver of this signal does not move away, the displaying shark may launch a lightning-fast, slashing attack. Grey Reef Shark

Your also correct about the Bull Shark. They are a very aggressive animal and are the only sharks known to swim up fresh water rivers. Bull sharks have been found in the Mississippi as far north as illinois. This fish can and will swim in fresh water where bathers will enjoy the water to cool off.

Also, since the Shark is rather large...11 feet long and weighing as much as 700 lbs...they are a very dangerous animal...just take a look at this expert.

Erich Ritter thought he was an expert...

I like how he says that there was nothing he could have done...well, if he wasn't in the water in the first place...duh!

Its irrelevant. I am afraid of sharks for a very good reason. Same reason I am afraid of Lions, Tigers, Bears, etc etc.

Just because 9 times out of 10 the Great white will ignore you, doesn't mean one time when your paddling around on your boogie board the Damn thing wont bite your legs off. Its not like driving in a car, and having the possibility of a fatal accident. There is absolutely no rational reason anyone can tell me you need to be following around a great white shark on a boogie board, its reckless and stupid. You have no idea if that shark looks up and all of a sudden you resemble something it wants to eat.

very good point. i don't like the fact that when you go into the ocean...you leave the top of the food chain and find yourself lower than a guppie. When that little fish can out swim ya...you know that the big fish will catch you!

Oh, even the supposed well fed animals will look for something else to eat.

I have a guy who works for me that likes to do diving tours where they kneel on the bottom of the ocean as the sharks swim around them. He has all kinds of pictures of this stuff. Stupid. He's a type A personality but I agree that risking your life for this stuff is just asking for trouble.

I have seen these tours.

However, I do not believe this to be a normal behavior from the sharks since they have been trained to come to this spot for an easy meal.

I understand there are safety divers and that all people are suppose to have their legs under them and hands in...but just one whack and all heck could break lose.

Your out numbered!

Consider this. We live with predators if we own dogs. I have a 70lbs dog. His mouth is fucking huge and strong as hell. If he wanted me dead he could make it happen but yet I keep him around. Cats are predators too but well the common house cat I don't think it terribly deadly sure it will hurt you bad but I think you could fend off a 20 lbs house cat. 70 lbs dog that's attacking....little different.

Not really just sharks. Although I do know Orcas are assholes

Only if your a seal. Actually sharks and killer whales eat the same thing. So they are rivals.

But you make that choice to go into the ocean. To enter their domain. That is a choice. I think people that jump out of a perfectly good airplane are fucking nuts but hey to each their own. I'd love to swim with sharks even free swim (no cage) depending on the situation.

The data on shark attacks show they are rarely deadly. Also if those shark tours were dangerous (i.e. people were getting bit) you think they'd still be doing them?

No seriously Orcas are fucking assholes in the wild. They will harass a baby gray whale until they catch it, just to eat the tongue of the whale. Only thing they eat the rest of it is left to rot (and get eaten by other animals) the chase to tire this calf out takes about two hours.

Also they have more than once just flipped out and attacked humans in captivity. They are dicks.

back in my yute I would have. I went to school to be a pilot...but as soon as i became a "dad", i got a huge fear of heights. Shocked the heck out of me.

Guess it has something to do with responsibilities or that my wife wears the pants now...don't know.

Well the real question is "how do you look in a skirt?" since she wears the pants

You are completely disregarding thousands of years of domestication of dogs by humans, sure a dog that isnt yours can be dangerous, but Ive never known a person whose own dog turned on them unless they had some sort of mind altering disease. A 70lb family dog will sit there and endure abuse by a child, and just take it like a ***** because of this.

Even still a solitary dog, you do have a fighting chance physically no matter how big it is. Most adult male humans, well outweigh even the biggest dog breeds, and can subdue one through brute force, its just ingrained in our instincts to flee as opposed to fighting. Seriously if you sumo flopped on your 70lb dog you would probably crack all of its ribs.

Against a great white shark, or a bear, tiger, lion etc. We dont have a chance in hell without a weapon.

Ive been bitten enough in my past jobs as a paper delivery boy and pizza delivery guy to not trust dogs period (or dumb asses that own them). Sure I have 3 at home, but I wouldn't leave a baby or toddler alone with them and certainly don't allow my dogs to run all over the neighboorhood (unlike most of my neighbors who have dogs).

End derail. That ******* stupid offering himself up like an hor deourve (sp) to that Great White.
