Bob Brenly made the radio rounds today, explaining why he said no to interviewing for the Cubs job.
Bob Brenly said next Chicago Cubs manager will have cloud over his head if it's not Ryne Sandberg - ESPN Chicago
Another thing he said caught my eye
Not to read too much into that bolded quote, but I wonder if Brenly knows a little bit more about the future payroll than he meant to let on.

''I've said all along it would have to be the right situation,'' he told the Sun-Times last week. ''I don't feel an overwhelming need to get back on the field, but if the situation was right, absolutely I'd like to [manage]. But I don't need to get back on the field and take a manager's job just for the sake of being a big-league manager, and getting fired a year and a half into a three-year deal because a team sucked and the ballclub didn't want to spend any money. That's been my attitude from the beginning, and it still is.''
