"Why can't I be the MVP of the league?" the Bulls star said at media day festivities Monday at the Berto Center. "Why can't I be the best player in the league?"
"That's why my expectations are high. Why can't I be the best player in the league? I work hard enough. I dedicate myself to the game and sacrifice a lot of things at a young age."
"With this team, I think we're good," Rose said. "I don't think we need any more pieces. We have good guys who are dedicated to the game and came from winning programs. They don't care about stats. They just want to win games."
I certainly think he can be the MVP and the best player in the NBA, someday. It will take hard work and a lot of improvement. But anyone with Rose's amazing talents is capable of winning the MVP award, and is capable of leading a team to a championship.
I think the fact that Rose is saying this is awesome. It shows a high level of expectation and assertiveness.
And when you look at Roses biggest deficiency, defense, he's in a good situation to make a drastic improvement. Rose is definitely athletic enough to play good defense but with Thibodeau, hopefully hell be improved in awareness and in team defense.
When you think about the past couple of years, we've been solid defensively. We've had good personnel to play solid defense but Thibodeau might take it to a different level by taking that talent and ratchet up its effectiveness with schematic improvements.
Rose with his athleticism can be the tip of the spear on the perimeter. Im hoping with Thibodeau, Rose will have a better awareness and understanding of flow so he can anticipate turnovers.
