Former AL Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke has been mentioned as a trade candidate all offseason, but yesterday we learned that the right-hander unequivocally asked the team for a trade. He can block a trade to 15 teams, including the Yankees, Red Sox, and Nationals, but not the Tigers, Angels, or Rangers. The Blue Jays have been perhaps the most aggressive team in pursuit of the right-hander.

There are 30 teams out there that would love to have Greinke to their rotation, but it will take a substantial prospect package to land him. Kansas City owns the game's best farm system, loaded with pitchers (especially left-handed) and players at the corner positions, so they could seek help up-the-middle in a trade. Earlier today we learned that they wanted second baseman/shortstop Danny Espinosa from the Nationals in a package, supporting that theory.

The Yankees are reluctant about pursuing Greinke, but if the price drops far enough they'll almost surely entertain the idea after losing out on Cliff Lee. The Rangers have already made at least one offer. Greinke has said he's willing to go anywhere, but the Royals say they won't trade him within the division. Where do you think he'll end up?

They want up the middle specs. The package of Brett Jackson,Hak Ju Lee, Chrinos would get the deal done. Before you guys go nuts cause of giving up 3 prospects think about it. Of these 3 we would be lucky to have 1 of them turn out. I would rather get the CY YOUNG WINNER who is only 27 y/o. Imagaine a rotation of Grienke,Demp,Z,Wells,Cashner. That is a very nice rotation and we would contend NOW AND LATER. I know some of you guys LOVE PROSPECTS but i would do this right now so we have chance to win NOW and LATER. Boston gave Hanley Rameriz for Beckett and look how that turned out. Hanley become the best SS in baseball but BOS won 2 World Series cause of deal. To get a CY YOUNG you have to give something up.

I'm not selling the farm for him. You think the Cubs should be run like the Red Sox or Yankees when they don't have near the money those two teams have to spend.

THATS WHERE U ARE WRONG..You realize the Cubs have the most expensive tickets in the league. So the owner wants the FANS to pay like BIG MARKET. People like you are the reason why he can do it. Cubs are the 2nd biggest market in Baseball. BIGGER THEN BOS. They have the money but the owner rather put it back in his pocket

The Royals asked the Nationals for Jordan Zimmerman, Drew Storen, and Danny Espinosa. That's a #2 starter, a closer that oozes w/ potential, and a middle infielder w/ pop in his bat and can play solid defense. They want way too much for Grienke and no team will meet their asking price

You think THAT is too much for Greinke?!

:obama:

And if you think Zimmermann is a number two starter, then you're out of your mind. He's been solid in his career so far, but he hasn't even put together a full season yet and only made 7 starts (with an ERA of nearly 5) in 2010. How do you see him as a number two starter?

if you can get him, you give up the specs for him, it is that simple. well worth it....you know what you have in him, and you have no clue on the specs.

still the cubs wont get him.

Grienke needs to go to a team like San Diego, or Houston, or Tampa...a team that plays in a city that won't make him crack under pressure.

It's the assumption that due to his anxiety disorder, it is impossible for him to succeed in any large market.

It was made in sarcasm...truth be told, I don't wanna part w/ 3/4 the farm to get him.

limitations of an anxiety disorder vary from one person to the next. it is not set in stone that due to a anxiety disorder he will fail in the big leagues, that is just an assumption on your part. I asked my father, who is a Dr, and he said specifically it is case by case and depends on the severity of the disorder and how it is being treated. anxiety disorders are often mis diagnosed as well and there are deeper problems than just GAD such as Agrophobia, depression etc.

So to say it is impossible, is wrong.

KC is a little better than the Pirates tho, they have one of the most storied franchises in MLB history and the cant win anything... Thats sad.

PNC is the only thing the Pirates have going for them, Kauffman sucks.
