Why Mike Quade?

I was just curious about the choice of 'Sweet' Lou's replacement. I am a little bit surprised that they didn't choose bench coach Alan Trammell instead. After all, he has already done it in Lou's other absences this season and he actually has major league managerial experience.

And as far as Ryno goes, I'm assuming that they wanted to wait until the end and they didn't want to bring him up during the tail end of a lost season. Plus, I think they want to see who else might be available after the season, Like Joe Girardi.

I think the main reason was b/c they felt they owe it to Quade to consider him as a coaching candidate, and Trammel won't be considered or doesn't want to be considered.

Again, I'm not sure Trammel even wants the job...he may be ready to move on, and probably understands that the names that are being thrown around (Girardi, Torre, LaRussa, Sandberg) are far better names than he is. Also, why bring Sandberg up? What is he going to prove for the rest of this season? Might as well keep him where everyone is succeeding, in Triple A...then have a clean slate to hire from.

Actually, during the broadcast, Jim Hendry explained that they didn't choose Trammell because he will not be a candidate for the position in 2011 and beyond. Apparently, Quade will be in the mix. However, Trammell wants to stick around to help Quade for the rest of this season and for whoever gets the job in the future.

Same here...he's not been a wonderful 3bc IMO.

Something else to consider..there's a chance that even if Ryno isn't the HC next year, he's a bench coach...and Quade could replace him back in AAA.

The Cubs want to win and make money, not be fair.
