Let me preface this by saying I am not bashing the Hawks. I am not here to argue about the Bulls and Pacers. I want to know why you guys like the Blackhawks, and why I should as well. I am on the verge of becoming an "official" fan of them.

Back in January, I found a website. This site gave me all of the information on the Big Four sports, and whose viewing territories I am in. Being in a suburb of Indianapolis, I found out that I am in the obvious areas like the Pacers and Colts. However, on DirecTV, I am also in MLB and NHL zones, like the Reds, White Sox :crazydance: (YES!!) and the Cubs, as well as the Blackhawks.

I have always loved the sport of hockey, but never really had a team to love as much as I love the Pacers and Colts, and to a lesser but still valid extent, the White Sox. I would catch the occasional game on ESPN or NBC, but never watched a single team on a consistant basis. I have a good friend who is a big time hockey fan, who moved to Indiana from Pittsburgh. He taught me to like the Pens, and I still do to a point. However, I can't watch them on a consistant basis and I have trouble liking them at times because I can never see them.

When I found out I got most all Blackhawks games, I was almost indifferent. I have the Pens "grudge" against Hossa, so there was that seed of distaste already planted, but I watched because I like watching hockey, and I have watched every Hawks game on CSN that wasn't in the same time as like a Pacers or Indiana Hoosiers game. Since I started, I have really begun to enjoy watching the Blackhawks play. They play as a team, and are unselfish for the most part, you know, the way a team should be. So, my question is, why do you all like the Blackhawks? Why is it right for me to join Hawk Nation?

Concluding, I know I have argued with a lot of you all about the Pacers and Bulls in not so nice, but heated conversations, but I hope we can at least coexist as mutual Blackhawks fans. Thank you all!

We don't need bandwagoners!...kidding.

Unlike so many people in sports and life in general, quitting is not in the Hawks vocabulary. They embrace Walter Payton's approach, never die easy...which makes them a real nice fit for an economically depressed city such as Chicago.

Nah, I'm down with your first statement, Biz. We don't need bandwagon fans. If you want to know, watch the games. I'm tired of hearing people say once the Hawks lose one game, their interest level will be gone.

I'm not bandwagoning by any means lol. I stayed a die hard Pacers fan when everyone in Indy hated then and hopped ship to you guys. Like I said, I'm looking for a team to love, not to jump ship to LA or somewhere. I just wanted to know reasons you guys like this team. I said I've been watching games, in fact all I can lol

How exactly was I being arrogant? I was being straight forward about not bringing heated arguments here. Unfortunately being a pacers fan that happens a lot in this forum.

you are fine man. keep watching the games. if there are no bandwagoners (not saying you are) than there will be no new fans to the sport, a sport which is dying. We need a new generation of fans because once the meatball fans are RIP than there will be zero fans.

That's cool and I'm not sure what being a Pacer fan has to do with anything. Keep watching the games and discover why the Hawks are enjoyable to root for :)

They were arguably the most hated team in the history of sports in their host city. After the whole Detroit thing...

Currently one of the best run franchises in N.A. Sports... Although they were voted worst and were a decade ago.

They have one of the neatest logos in sports, as long as you don't deem it racist, and originality being of the NHL first 6 teams. That's all I'm gonna pitch.

I heard a segment on this topic yesterday(Waddle/Silvy). Apparently some of the more knowledgeable fans don't wish to be bothered with the newbies regardless, somewhat of an "I don't want to share" attitude.

However, if a fan bases level of interest on a simple record...well...they really aren't fans but rather what I call groupies. They go to games b/c it's the in-thing etc., like a certain % of those attending games at Wrigley watching everything BUT baseball.

This. In addition to the title of your thread came off as arrogant to me... As if blackhawk fans need you as a fan so badly that you need to be talked into it.

Maybe I misunderstood your intent.

No no no not at all. Not like Why should I (be forced) to like this team, but why I should be excited to like this team. Sorry for the misunderstanding lol

Why should you like this team? Because you have no other choice.

I went to school not too far from Indy and got somewhat familiar with the area around the city through some of the work I had. And, as you seemed to indicate, hockey isn't exactly on the top of the list around those parts. There are a few ice rinks in the area that house some decent beer leagues, made up of good people with a good knowledge of the game. But there are also people who asked me if my Hawks sweater was that of a local high school with the nickname "Indians" and thought the word "hockey" was of a foreign language.

First off, people who root for teams out of their local markets (unless they've moved) are assholes. So you want a local team. Based off of your location, you've got three options.
1. Detroit - roughly three hours to the north, and a franchise on its way down after a long, storied run. You don't want to like them. They're going to suck. Also, ever been to Detroit? It's awful.
2. Columbus - roughly three hours to the east. A franchise that's never really been good and just traded away the only talent they've ever had. They shoot off an obnoxious god-damn cannon when they score goals (albeit, a rare occurrence). So cross them off the list.
3. Chicago.

The Hawks have the best sweater in hockey and the best uniform in sports. The Anthem is one of the coolest pre-game traditions that exists today. There's only one player on the Hawks that's really worthy of anyone's hate outside of Vancouver (and they're all jackasses anyway), and he plays on the 4th line. Patrick Kane is playing the best hockey of his life and will be a key cog Team USA's chances in the 2014 Olympics. The whole team plays a fast, exciting brand of hockey that legit fans of the game should want to watch. It's not a goon-fest ... they have incredible hockey skill and use it. Did I mention that THEY HAVEN'T LOST A FUCKING GAME IN REGULATION HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEASON?

Other than that? No real reason.

P.S. Tell your Pittsburgh friend to get the **** over the Hossa thing already. He was on the Pens for about two months, and Pittsburgh got its Cup anyway. That grudge is ridiculous.

This was the exact response I was hoping for when I posted the thread, and for that, thanks. I really agree with Indy... The Ice are okay but they are amateur- that's not that cool.

I never knew about the anthem. In fact, I have never heard about it. I'll have to look into that one. And as far as jerseys go, I'd agree. I like them.

Also, Patrick Kane, for the reason of Team USA, is my favorite player in the NHL. So that definitely doesn't hurt.

Thank you for the great response.

Ps: My buddy doesn't care about Hossa anymore, it's more about Max Talbot now I think.

More successful and amazing than the Colts and Pacers COMBINED will EVER be. And you wreak of "bandwagon jumper" Besides, hockey is more exciting than basketball. And football is like a fucking appetizer 21 games MAX if your lucky. Gobble it all up and its gone after the holidays like all the chocolate we buy during christmas. :*(. OT, but do you think we would be as much into football as we are if the season was say 42 games instead of 16???

SO MANY DAMN RED WINGS FANS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!!! I call them out for being bandwagon, but they all have the "growing up my daddy watched the Wings blah blah blah" or "I just latched onto them naturally, not because they won all the time smug smug smug smug..." lol

YouTube search for the 1991 NHL All-Star Game Anthem, right the **** now. Seriously.

Ice games are a lot of fun but it's just not the same as the NHL.

I highly recommend you looking into a drive to Columbus to see the Hawks play. Decent arena and some cool bars/restaurants outside the stadium after the game. Real affordable ... way more so than Hawks' home games. Not quite the same experience, but a good appetizer for sure.

Also, Talbot hate is acceptable.

Damn. That was awesome.

As for driving to Columbus, I very well might. I get my driver's license tomorrow and although Thursday is probably a bit soon to drive 3 hours by myself, I will certainly need to next season.

I know what you mean about United Center and Bulls/Blackhawks games being expensive, too. I came for a Pacers v Bulls game on the train with a friend and we took buses around. Madison Street was really cool the night of the game, and the fans (besides all the Pacers suck yells I got) made the atmosphere great, but dang tickets were expensive! Haha anyway,I'll have to check that out in Columbus.
