Hi guys, I have a NetGear R6100 wifi router at home. I bought it about 6 months ago and up until this last week or so, it was running pretty good. But now our laptops keep showing as connected but will stop dowloading, streaming or whatever we're doing. I then have to disconnect and reconnect and all is good again for a bit. This is now happening every 5 minutes or so and I'm pretty pissed at this point.

I have tried a hard reboot of the modem and router, but same problem keeps happening. Anyone have any ideas or is it time to cough up another 100$ or so?

Have you googled your router model to see if other people have had the same issue before?

There are so many factors that could be affecting your connection to your router.... I always start with "Has anyone on da internets had da same problem as me"

Might be a firmware update is in order off the top of my head.

I bought 1 Netgear one time.... was a POS much like what you describe and it did not provide a good enough wifi signal for my entire apartment at the time, so I ditched it rather than trying to fix it

Reading up on google kinda led to others having the same issue with no real answers or solutions provided.

As for my router, up until last week, it was fine, I have it in my bedroom on the 2nd floor and I get near perfect signal in basement and outside too.

Weird... are there any firmware updates available for your router?

I'm curious why you aren't using what your ISP gives you.

I am guessing his ISP only provided the modem.... or he chose modem only and bought his own router.

That is what I do.... I have a modem from them and I bought my own router that is not some POS Comcast got a nice deal on.... I would always prefer to have my own home router over something the ISP provides.

My wifi blinks out on me once or twice a day, I hit troubleshoot and I'm back up in a minute. I've wondered if its due to cheap equipment from AT&T.

Go download Vistumbler (it is free) Then check which channels your neighbors are using. Very well could be one of your neighbors replaced his router and is on the same channel as you and the signals are overlapping. Bad thing in the world of wifi
