Will Taj Gibson be a Legitimate Contender for Sixth Man of the Year this Season?

Is Taj going to be a serious 6th man of the year player this season?

I would say so , we really need him to step up in the absense of many others.

Depends on how much playing time he gets. If he gets around 20 MPG again, then no. I don't see him as a serious 6MOY candidate. Especially if guys like Harden are coming off the bench.

If Boozer plays less, sure. Taj has to get a lot of minutes. 6th man usually ends up going to a player who plays starter minutes but comes off the bench.

Well, I think he will not only come in for Boozer, but also for Noah. Let's face it... Gibson can play center, and Nazr Mohammed isn't very great.

Not so sure he'll be up for it....but that would be cool.

Yeah... I'm wondering if his production would go down if his minutes went up.

Eh, his production would be fine. Taj is a good player. I was referring to him even being up the list to get the '6th Man Award'.

Unfortunately, I doubt it. The NBA awards stat-padders for 6MOTY, not hard nosed grinders. Taj should be in the conversation though.

Which is truly a shame. It's hard to name anyone in the NBA that comes off the bench and plays harder than Taj. And it's not like his stats are bad either.

Taj would come off the bench, get 2-3 key blocks to swing momentum to our favor, rip 7-8 boards to do the same thing. We win the game, Taj is forgotten. I hated that. I would have to look, but it felt like Taj had one of the best bench +/- impacts last season. He did exactly what a 6th man should, change momentum and bring energy to the court, but he did it without being a shot chucker.

100% agree. And he shot 50% from the field on the season. Not too bad.

I wish somebody was stupid enough to take on Boozer's deal so Gibson could get starter minutes. This is the year where we find out if he's worth giving a sizable contract to.

The only way you'd be able to trade Boozer is if Michael Scott was the GM of a basketball team. As for Gibson, I think this will be an outstanding season for him and the Bulls, will in fact, give him that juicy contract. I can't wait for when Taj is in the starter role instead of Boozer.

Taj would need to keep his foul number low.

Otherwise he wouldn't get enough minutes.

I voted Yes, because he'll play a pivotal role for the Bulls off the bench and be valuable to them. I don't see any way he comes close to winning the award though. He'll contribute as much or more than the contenders to deserve the award but it won't show up in the stats like many others will in scoring or blocked shots and that's how voters who don't see enough games to know better cast their votes.

As long as James Harden, Jason Terry, and Ray Allen are bench players, I doubt it.
