Here is my sad story: I had ATT DSL for years but got sick of the slow speed (6mb down). Had Comcast installed with 100mb down using their Arris TG862G combo cable modem/router. I have a very long ranch with my office at one side and my wife's office at the other. So I had Comcast install it in the livining room which is in the middle.

The wifes Macbook get's 50mb down at one side of the house and my Imac also gets 50mb on the other side of the house. Then I have a fuking Tosihba notebook in my office next to my iMac that only gets 15mb down and it's on a dead spot on my desk it you can believe it.

So, I'm thinking maybe get a Motorola Surfboard modem and Lynksys TC1900 killer router.

Between the router and cable modem I have to spend $325 dollars to compensate for the lousy Comast modem/router

Anyone have expereince with this router and thoughts on if it will fill in the dead spot

Just out of curiosity, what the heck do you need 100Mbps service for?

Seems like overkill for a residential connection...

Advertised wireless download speeds are lies, just accept it. If you truly need 100 mb download, get a hard wire installed direct from your box to the device.

I originally ordered the 50mbps service but because of the degradation to my office on the other side of the house I was dropping to 10mbps. I called Comcast and made them give me 105 mbps for $10 extra per month

The speed isnt the issue but the wireless coverage is. Interested in a new router to cover that dead spot and heard that Lynksys 1900 had the longest range

just get a cheap router and set it up as a bridge or repeater.

Might not be a dead spot, but a spot with high interference. Sometimes simply upgrading to a decent 802.11ac router(hopefully one with at multiple antennas for dual bands/MIMO) can fix this by allowing more channels. Sometimes your router might be poorly centered for best range(including through obstructions). And sometimes doing a small cat6 wire-job can solve a lot of issues when you can take desktops off the wireless and reduce interference/plan the router point center better.

UPdate: went to Best Buy today to buy the Asus 68 on the recommendation of the crowd here. My Best Buy didnt have any so on the recommendation of a Geek Squad guy that says he is getting his master's in CS I get the Netgear Nighthwawk and the Arris/Motorila cable router

Easy to set up for a nitwit like me. And here are the results

-Macbook hardwired to modem: 117mb on a 105mb connection

-Wife's computer 30 feet away: increased to 105mb from 50mb (comcast Arris modem/router)

-My Imac 75 feet away with lots of walls: increased to 90mb from 48mb (Comcast Arris modem/router)

-Toshiba work notebook 75 feet away: increased to 68mb from 12mb and I think the dead spot is gone

Since I switched from the Netgear to Asus router all the dropped printer problems have gone away

I also called my credit card company and had them reverse the $69 charge for router support
