Am I the only one who really wants to see the Bears pick Ashton Jeanty with the 10th pick? Watching Jahmyr Gibbs this season, I'm confident that he's a major reason for their offensive success. He makes everyone look good. I know the Lions have a good oline, but is it because he makes them look good? Gibbs' ypc is 5.6 while Montgomery's is 4.2. So I would say Gibbs has a lot to do with it. Gibbs also helps the passing game tremendously.

If you look at the playoff teams this year, most of them have great RBs. Barkley, Jacobs, Gibbs, Henry, Montgomery. And we have a change of pace backup in Swift.

We can try to sign Ryan Kelly (Center) from the Colts for a truckload of money. Then draft Ashton Jeanty in the first round. And the best Guard and DT/DE in the 2nd round. 3rd rounder can be a safety if Brisker is not healthy.

So our Oline will be
LT - Braxton Jones
LG - Rookie/FA
C - Ryan Kelly
RG - Rookie/FA
RT - Darnell Wright

If you want to take a step in the right direction in fixing the OL, see if the Colts want to trade Nelson for one of the 2nd rounders. Quenton will be 29 but you figure he will be elite for another 2-3 years. Colts save 34 million in cash in the process which is probably appealing based on where they are as a franchise. Find a trade down at 10 where you can get better value with picking best interior OL and recoup a late 2nd as a bonus. Now you can use a center like Shelton with much better guards.

Swift always averaged over 4+ yards a carry throughout his seasons with the Lions and the Eagles. Comes to the Bears and drops to 3.8.

What changed on the Bears? 🤔

Monty with a 3.9 avg with the Bears over 4 years. 4.4 avg with the Lions over 2. What changed on the Lions?

Jeanty isn't like Gibbs at all though. Swift is the Bears Gibbs. Any RB that is signed or drafter would have to be the bell cow, up the gut guy.

For the OL, shiny new transmission guys, I'd be all for signing Najee Harris and trading some future picks for Quentin Nelson instead of drafting Jeanty.

If the Bears go OL with the first and a guy like Omarion Hampton or Scatebbooty is there in the late 2nd or 3rd, they should consider drafting on of those two.

Yea, that’ll help Ballard keep his job.. I’d rather pair Swift with Skattebo later in the draft and get a linemen that can actually open a hole for someone in the first.

This is not a good idea, and Jeanty is much more like Montgomery than he is like Gibbs.
Jeanty is twice the RB Montgomery is. If Jeanty runs a 4.3 40 he won't last til the 10th pick anyways.

Jeanty would be a pick you make when you're on the cusp of competing for a superbowl. When the Lions took Gibbs at #12, which was a trade-down pick, that was effectively playing with house money since the pick was from the Rams and it definitely worked out for them. Even so, you can make the argument that you still wouldn't want take a running back til the 2nd eat the earliest when you've got guys in the league like Devon Achane from Gibbs' very same draft.

Of the top 6 rushing leaders this year, 4 were 1st round picks (Barkley, Gibbs, Robinson and Jacobs) and 2 were 2nd rounders (Henry, Taylor). After that, you have:
  • Kyren Williams, 5th
  • Chuba Hubbard, 4th
  • Aaron Jones, 5th
  • Bucky Irving, 4th (rookie)
  • James Conner, 3rd
  • Tony Pollard, 4th
  • Rico Dowdle, Undrafted
...all of which were 1,000 yard rushers, and all of which have better offensive lines than ours,

I love threads like these. You can tell immediately the idiots who think real life is like Madden, go for a million playmakers--and win on 'easy' mode with a bunch of 60s rated OL, because they can win in the game--why cant the bears do that in real life?

The colts have 50 million in cap space and they're going to let their good center and best FA just walk out the door? So the bears can sign him and then draft a RB with a top 10 pick in the draft!

That's what every team with cap space and good OL hitting free agency will do, wave goodbye and let him go to another team and not try to keep him at all. The GM and HC after a rough year in 23, went 8-9 this year with no playoffs, but they definitely wont be in any position of urgency to get better quickly to save their jobs, they'll want to start from scratch at the position!

Lets forget how Penn State stacking the box and spying him held Jeanty to 2 ypc until the end when they were up and the game was out of reach that Jeanty could make his statline better. The draft is deep at RB, so naturally it only makes sense to take one in the top 10 of the 1st round. Let's also forget how choosing playmakers over fixing a bottom-3 OL in the league didn't work this year when Poles felt the need to draft WR3 at 9 overall. Let's try it again! Definition of insanity/doing the same dumb shit and expecting different results be damned!

Can bears fans be less stupid, please?

I'll go further. Why bother filling in the offensive line with rookies or FAs? Why not spend that money on more wide receivers?

Before you start calling other Bears fans stupid and idiots, maybe you should do some research. First of all, Ryan Kelly is an unrestricted free agent. Which means he can sign with any team. And he has said so himself that he doesn't think the Colts will offer him a contract extension.

The draft is not the only way for GMs to fill holes on the team. So it's not a given that they have to draft an Olineman in the first round. They can build via trades and FA signings. And many interior Olinemen can be found in day 2 of the draft. Taking a guard with the 10th pick would actually be dumb unless that player is on the caliber of Quenton Nelson. In fact, if Mason Graham is available with the 10th pick, you'd be stupid not to take him.
