My understanding is @wonky73 was down round the pub and was indeed rowing with his missus.

It's a pro-form 750r which I got on an amazing sale for $450 brand new in the box. Yep still using it.
A warning, rowing is hard.
When I first tried it I could only do it for like a minute. It wasn't my cardio it was my legs. I had to work up to it by doing a couple of minutes at a time with resting in between. And I got it after a year of lifting.

Also proper rowing is a complex movement kinda like a golf swing. You have to have everything going right or you really feel it in the lower back.

Burns tons of calories though.

450 is about me budget.. i see your model for around 600+ though... i def dont wanna spend 1k on something and end up hating it and i dont wanna spend 50 bucks only to like it and need to upgrade after it breaks in a week..

guess ill see what amazon can deliver in a day..

yeah my legs arent great atm.. even with running and boxing, me legs were exposed playing basketball recently.. missing explosion... took 6-8 weeks to get me legs under me for those types of movements... only playing one night a week though... then the season ended..

Amazon dont play.. set my shit up today.. only messed with it for a literal minute after the fact... will work out in a bit, but idk what i think..

its a water one.. the harder you pull the more resistance it creates...but i find that heavier resistance ends up at the back end of the stroke.. i dont feel it in me legs like i thought i should.. this is with the water at max level.... ive never rowed before but i messed with a rowing machine once or twice at the gym in me 20s and i swear it had more resistance in the legs.. maybe its the machine.. idk.. maybe id feel it after 4-5 minutes... maybe my legs are just skrong... maybe my stroke is out of sync

is your machine heavy in the legs @wonky73 ? .. or did your legs just tire after a cumulative effect of da strokez?..

nvm. i figured out the issues.. was the machine and my build.. the pulley strap connected to da bar is too long and i had to wrap it around the bar to shorten it.. instead of 95% arm and 5% legs its now around.. 50-60% legs.. still not the resistance i am looking for though.. guess i can shorten it more and push harder..also im flexible and my reach is a lil longer than me size i suppose... damn i need a leg press.. will **** with it again tomorrow.. just easin it in to whatever me new program will be going forward... cause i also finally added some weights back in today too.. light but its a start..

For me it's about 70% legs. They are still my limiting factor for how long I can go. When I get really tired I'll start feeling it in my lower back which I bet is from my form going so that's when it's time to quit.

As a college rower/ergBro I suggest you want to get under 7 (or 7:30 at best in middle age) if you are doing it right

I only did 10 minutes today.. 1 minute intervals. between weight sets and as a warm up for bag work... hiit inspired by h.i.t.s .. will do a longer session tomorrow after running and x rounds of boxing to finish out me workout..

my machine electronics are basic bs.. i cant recall seeing distance.. just time, stroke counter... ****, i forget.. i was watching something on me phone......its cheap china shit. i wouldnt recommend it unless your like 80 wiff no legs or want a better upper body workout as opposed to da legs getting that burn.. the resistance in the legs is lacking.. good peak resistances for the arms and shoulders/back though.. had me sweating pushing hard then pulling into that peak.

one of the multiple brands that look similar to this

I should have said 7 or under for 2k meters. Legs, core, arms, repeat, and your seat should stay put after the leg push, but always keep that 3-step process. If you are on the water, feather them oars!

Some of the machines are obviously better than others but the concept is the same: legs > taint as fulcrum > arms and chest for the full workout/technique. Goal is not to waste any power in any of the steps

i looked.. there is distance.. still cheap electronics though..

yeah legs are basically straight and seat dead still before the resistance amps up... still more enjoyable than a stationary bike as a low impact cardio source to give me running legs a break.. if i do it for 6-12 months and keep at it, i will go to a sport store and test machines before i upgrade..

Snap your abdomen back before doing the pull as the intermediate power exchange and be leaning back at like 110 degrees, don’t do just legs, then arms/chest. Sorry, nostalgia kicking in. Ergs in my experience are like guitars: learn on the shittiest with the worst action and it just gets easier from there

I got lucky in getting a $1500 for $500. I decided to pull the trigger when I realized I could probably sell it used for at least that much.

speaking of abs, shit wore at them today.. since hurting me biceps 2 years ago i havent done much abs.. cause i stopped lifting... no maintaining either.. maybe a decline going into 1 set of 30 every few days the last year.. so def weakest muscle group on me id say,, plus maybe bad form

quit after 7 minutes cause abs were tiring.. .. they arent sore after the fact but were getting tirred.. it was after a few mile run and 10 rounds on the reflex

maybe max water level is too much at the start.. idk, my legs nor arms/shoulder were too tired. did feel something in my legs when i stopped though.. not tired but that they were being used doing something.. dunno how far i went... the distance tracker is garbage.. no drifting is measured and pulling hard seems to measure less distance than pulling soft ... pure shit..

def enjoyed it though.. may take some water out or start doing more abs..
