This is an interesting thought that a Cavs fan brought up, and that is, if the Cavs are competing with say the Bulls/Heat/Pistons instead of the Celtics/Magic for playoff seeds around the allstar break, do the Cavs trade Lebron to make sure they don't lose him for nothing.

They would surely be looking at other team's best players if they're trading Lebron, so Rose and Noah would obviously be included, and probably an expiring contract like Jerome James.

That would leave us with:

PG-Kirk Hinrich
SG-John Salmons
SF-Lebron James/Luol Deng
PF-Tyrus Thomas
C- Brad Miller

Obviously we completely maul Cleveland in that trade. But are we a good team? We won't have the cap space to bring in a max free agent in 2010 anymore, as we would have traded Jerome James' expiring.

So are we good enough of a team to keep Lebron? Or do we just lose Rose/Noah, and watch Lebron walk to Miami?

So do you trade Rose/Noah for Lebron?

in a heartbeat. not sure if it makes us good but we'd always be a piece or 2 from great.

I don't know if people missed this part, but Lebron is a free agent at the end of the year.

So the kicker to the scenario is that you're potentially trading away two great core pieces for a player who only spends 3 months on your team.

Talentwise, there is no question that you trade for Lebron. But when you factor in that he could easily leave to say Miami in the offseason, it makes it an interesting question to ponder.

youre right, but I still think its worth it. The org would have to put something together to prove that he should stick around.

NO WAY!!!!! Lebron isn't going to resign with that core. If he is having second thoughts about a better group in clevland, why would he want to stay here? And if he does want to come here in the summer, we can s&t for him. Bron will dictate where he wants to go and I doubt a stripped down team minus their two best players is where he sees himself.

I really want Bron but this isn't the way. We will just end up losing rose and noah for a rental of bron.

also i'd start deng/lebron at 3/4. both are better than tyrus. have him come off the bench. then When deng's stats are amazing either trade him for a legit 4,or rebuild through free agency.

Naturally it has to be with an extension. If so then yes, but after trying to bargain them down.

Do you plan to preform hypnosis? Drug him? Beat it out of him? There is no way he is signing on to join our sorry reminisce of a team.

If he wanted an extension, he would have gotten a max one this summer. This thread is a bit crazy imo. James isn't getting traded and isn't signing an extension.
