So, I'm checking out the local Sheriff's reports for the people arrested in the county I live in. And sure as shit on Monday there was this dumbass who goes to two schools intoxicated and asks if he can bring a gun to school to protect his grandchildren...He goes to the first school and elementray school and they call the cops, but he leaves and then goes to a middle school a few blocks away with the same question. Luckily there was a school resource officer there. They then call in a road deputy who ends up arresting him, but he has since been released..

Now I'm at a bit of a crossroad here, due to my daughter attends Pre-K at one of the schools this gentlemen showed up at...Do i just say **** it and let her miss the next two days since her Christmas break starts Friday, or do I trust the school at keeping my child safe, even though up to this point they said there would be officers at the school as well as running patrols, when they were not, because if they were this gentlemen would not have left the school drunk putting innocent people at risk just to go to another school and ask his stupid question..

What the guy did was stupid - beyond stupid - and should be locked up for awhile. But, to constantly live in fear is really no way to live. This is just my opinion, and I can understand and appreciate your concern over the stupidity of this fool.

Yeah, there's really no way to protect you children - or yourself for that matter - from all perceived threats, real or imagined. If you pull her out of school what's next? No more malls? No more riding in cars, buses, subways, etc? The chances of something terrible happening are both miniscule and completely out of your control; and I know, when I was attending NIU an occasional drinking buddy of mine took some buckshot in the shooting there (I was two buildings away). Your concern is completely understandable and, quite frankly, about as normal reaction a person can have. But at the same time, if we all start acting on our protective impulses we'll end up virtually shutting down as both individuals and a society as a whole. We can't allow the occasional lunatic to dictate our lives.

We should ban swimming pools and Tylenol, they kill more people every year than guns.
