Guess I can't say banks are stupid. We bail them out with our money and they pay us back with our own money, so we essentially bail them out twice.

Once i thought I would never go back to using Cash, looks like I am. They want to charge debit card users, for using their debit cards. They already started charging people for checking accounts again, now this. What next are they going to charge us for depositing money now too?

I mean this makes no sense to me. When you deposit money into a bank, you are essentially, for all intents and purposes, lending it to them. Now when I get a loan or use a credit card, do I get to charge them fees for the privilege of me paying it back?

**** it, why dont they just get it over with and entitle themselves to like a third of whatever we deposit, fucking greedy ass piles of shit.

and for fucks sake they have already been charging retailers for years for credit/debit services. NEWSFLASH, IT DOESN'T COST THE BANK A FUCKING DIME TO PROCESS CREDIT/DEBIT PURCHASES.

Actually, it does, unless you use it as a credit card. That's why they ask debit or credit.

Oh and yes, this is completely bullshit, it would be the last straw for me with Chase, except I've been saying that for years with them.

Just have to pick a better financial institution. Anybody who's military, active duty, retired, a dependant, or a veteran that isn't aware of or using USAA for their banking and insurance needs ought to be. This used to be an officer's only secret, but about 10 years ago they opened it to all military regardless of when you served. Hands down the best financial institution I've ever used by any measure. Their investment services are also top notch.

Actually yes to a certain degree. Spouses/children of those that have served I believe are or may be eligible. My wife/kids all have their own membership numbers and accounts.

If you look under eligibility for "other individuals" you can probably still use the banking and investment products. Worth the 1-800-call and a few minutes of your time.

I assume they are a full bank with no drawbacks as far as services they don't offer like direct deposit online bill pay and such?E

EDIT: I looked at the site more closely after I posted this, seems pretty full service.

Small transaction fees just like with the credit cards. But yes, it's still a weak excuse to charge $5 a month. Why do you think all the reward contests and such that they promote like, random free purchases and such, only work if you use it as a credit card. They want to discourage use of it as a atm transaction I guess. Use your Debit card as a debit card and it's on the bank system, use it as a credit card and it goes through Visa/MC. But I am no expert.
