Technically, they traded Zach for a (as of now) top 10 pick in the draft. Going into yesterday I would've said there's no way they even get a late 1st for Zach lol

I mean if the Bulls draft pick the next 3 years are anywhere from 1-10 this year, and 1-8 the following years, they will have traded Zach for nothing... This just allows them to keep their own lottery pick for sure and the pick never goes to San Antonio.

Either way, Bulls can pretty much properly tank now..

Be good if Vuc goes too though.

Is it confirmed that they still owe their pick to SA in following years?

But yes, they did basically trade Zach for nothing. I always figured they would because we can't trust AK to ever get positive value back in a trade at this point.

If those rumors about the Warriors wanting Zach AND Vuc have any truth to them I can only wonder what the heck that would've looked like that it ended up falling apart.

Also funny that by transitive trade logic, the Lakers traded Lonzo, Ingram, Josh Hart for Luka Doncic and a bubble chip lol

I read that Vuc could very well end up in Golden State within the next couple of days.

With this trade, they would not anymore.

The pick worked as it was protected 1-10 in 2025, then 1-8 2026-2028, then became a second if it never converted.. So basically that transfer of the pick is just gone now.

I hope he does. I bet Bulls end up with no draft capital out of it though

While we blast the Bulls on this trade, let us also not forget that the Kings didn't even get that great of a return back either.

The Kings did not receive ANY of the Spurs young core in the trade (Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, or even Keldon Johnson). Sure they get Zach, he's solid. The 2025 CHA 1st they get is lotto protected, so they're not really getting that, but instead 2 2nds in the next 2 years, the 2027 SAS 1st probably is gonna be a late 1st because obviously now the Spurs are aiming to be a playoff team and in 2 years Wemby might be unbeatable who knows lol. 2031 MIN 1st is probably an ok pick, but that's a current 6th grader so time will tell.

The Spurs also managed to keep all their ATL picks, which are way more valuable due to lack of protection (currently ATL is 10th and probably gonna be in free fall the rest of the year without Jaylon Johnson)

So sure the Kings got some value, but they left a lot on the table

But the Bulls got no value back so lol

I think Kenny gives a pretty apt reaction/summary here. Basically the Spurs win and everyone else loses

When I first saw the trade alert I thought the bulls got Fox for a second. In reality it is the polar opposite outcome. God bless Gerald Reinsdorf.
