Well he's a minus player to start with. He averages 15 mpg on a bad team. There were so many stretches over the course of the season where he showed how poor his hands are. He takes ill-advised three point shots, and takes long 2's. He's turnover prone, not that great of a rebounder, and he isn't a rim protector.
But, by all means, please read so heavily into a one game performance.
Ok, so perhaps explain to me what I am missing when I am watching Bobby Portis. You've been singing his praises for two years, by all means, why not share with me what you see in him?
He was a rookie that was drafted at #22 in the 1st round. He came to the Bulls who had Taj and Niko already in front of him. That's without finding room for Jo and Gasol as well. Did you really expect him to play 30 minutes right away? There is plenty of reason to get excited about his first playoff game experience. The playoffs is where players grow up and become the players they can be. Heck, even MJ scored a measly 23 points his first playoff game.
Portis' statline was 29 minutes, 19 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 0 turnovers. He was 8-10 from the field and 3-4 from the arc. He both rebounded well and protected the rim rather well. I'd say those are impressive numbers for his first playoff game, myself. By the way, his College statline was 17.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.1 steals as a sophomore at Arkansas. Not to mention, he shot extremely well from the field (53.6 percent) and three-point range (46.7 percent).
I don't get the negativity around here. Why be a Bulls fan or even post on a Bulls MB if you can't get excited about their performance in game #1? The Bulls are definitely not a bad team. They may not be a great team, but there are 14 other teams watching from their couch. The way I see it, there are probably 2-4 great teams, and a bunch more that have a shot to do something. Again, another thing I don't like about the NBA.
