You're probably right. They might have just not bothered to rank him because they didn't expect him to be there.
No I’m sure they had him ranked prob around where he went but saying #2 is the nonsense teams say post-draft. No one ever comes out and says “yeah there were guys we wish were there instead but we’re still happy to have him”.

what's with coaches and execs hugging players the first time they meet them at the interview?

Did you not watch the video? They were openly saying they hoped Nabors went before their pick and sounded solely focused on and praying that Rome would fall to them from at least pick 5 and on. That was very clear.

There is so much evidence pointing to them ranking Rome well above where they got him and maybe #2 overall - that came right out of Cunningham's mouth. Warren called it the perfect draft and praised Poles for staying patient and still getting their guy.

They were willing to give up a lot to go get Rome. They were celebrating that they got him and still have their 1st and both 2nd round picks next year. This was all in real time and to each other.

Whatever you say! I bet you also think the punter was #4 on their board!

They didn’t.
I know of a few larger named draft analysts who had Rome as wr#1.
It's a subjective game. Some people don't like the number of alligator arms and business decisions that MHJ made. Several have questioned Nabors' ability to win if jammed off the snap. Several have questioned Rome's ability to win all those go-up-and-get-them balls when professionals are fighting him for them. Those are all valid concerns, and the one you find more or less concerning is just a matter of your own personal preference.

How many of them had him as the #2 overall prospect? Isn’t that what they’re claiming?

I commented this in the social media thread, but… I wonder what Cunningham meant when he said to Poles that they got 1 and 2. Was Rome 2 on their board? That would be pretty interesting.
Considering Chase Claypool and VJJ...I don't know about Poles' WR rankings. 😬

Pretty cool poles had everyone involved during the process in the draft room. I do think Rome was their 1 WR. Probably because of their position, I’m assuming he was 2 behind MHJ. They were ready to trade up to draft him (rome).

You thought Carolina included DJ Moore in the trade to dump his salary. You don’t think Odunze is anything more than a college level impact player.

You should provide a ranking for things you know like top prison meals or the best times to shower safely in a penal institution.
