Stl vs Wash going to be a tuff series for STL.

Cubs playing the Reds and need to take advantage of this matchup. Reds have really given the Cubs troubles this year. But time to step up and beat the teams you should beat.

Seems like they stepped up vs the Pirates. Some may argue no big deal but too many times this season this team has just sleepwalked thru games and lost to teams they should have easily beat. Keep it up and maybe you gain a game by Thursday and be only 1 back and come in tied.

I just want the Nats to close out the Phillies with baby shark on blast, tears down baby Harpers face.

If I were them I would be creating an animation right now for that moment, to play on the big screen while its happening, with sharks chasing animated mario like harper and gobbling him up and him crying and shit as they bite up his limbs and he disappears from Washington DC memory forever. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo

They have like a 6 game series or something, and the Nats may have opportunity to eliminate Phillies and then clinch wildcard on two different nights and do the same fucking thing to him again. hahahahahaahahaha.

He is gonna hear it from the crowd. Holy shit. They should end his season early and send him to a beach just to keep their overpriced premadonna's head straight. This might **** him up for life.

Great strategy as a Cubs fan.

Hope one of the 4 teams competing for 3 spots clinches one of the bids vs a former players so they can play some videos taunting him??

Personally I'll be hoping the Phillies win all 5 games as it helps the cubs get into the playoffs.

south sider. worry about the brewers, the Nats got away. The more they win the better or the Mets/Phillies could still creep up.

Wtf are you talking about?

The Nats are a half game up on the cubs and 1.5 up on the brewers

The Mets and Phillies are 5 games back.

Just hoping we don't get another 2018 finish to the Cubs season. That would be pretty bad.

The Cubs starters are not on par or pitching like the Nats starters. You'll see.

As usual you change the topic and ignore your own assenine statement

Worry about the brewers the Nats got away?

The Nats have come back to the pack and have an similar chance to miss the playoffs as the cubs-brewers-cards as they only can make it as one of two wild card spots vs cubs-brewers-cards all have three ways in...divison-two wild card spots.

They're saving grace is 4 vs Miami later this week but good luck next week with 8 games vs +.500 teams and a manager in the hospital.

The finish sounds the same, Brewers winning the central. Cubs need to worry about tying the cardinals for the play in game.

Nat's 7-5. Mia should be roll over. 5 vs Phi at home. 3 vs Cle. This should end up 4-4 homestand.

But the Mia series puts them in the cats bird.

Mil has 11 games vs cheese ball power pull league action. Yelch or not they choke here then they are a joke team. They could go 10-1 it is that stupid.

I'll give them 7-4 and play the variable.

STL has the worst ending. Cubs/Ari/Cubs.

I'm still giving them 6-5 based off of home field.

Based off of this the Cubs are out based off of scheduling. So they have to play over the competition to have a shot.

Talk about squeeking out a payroll

The Cubs decided yesterday to place infielder Addison Russell on the 7-day concussion injured list, as Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. By doing so, the organization will avoid paying Russell a $100K roster bonus

Drama

As Wittenmyer explains, this outwardly innocuous move makes for a complicated situation from a variety of perspectives. It’s even possible that it could ultimately lead to a grievance, he suggests, though it’s not clear whether that has specifically been contemplated.

With rosters expanded in September, the use of the injured list changes significantly. The 60-day IL remains relevant because it allows teams to open a 40-man roster spot. But the only real reason to use the 10-day or 7-day concussion lists is to make a recently optioned player eligible for an earlier recall.

In this case, the Cubs have nothing to gain beyond avoiding Russell’s next roster bonus. His arbitration contract includes a $4.3MM salary and $100K bonuses at 30, 60, 90, and 120 days on the active roster (plus $200K for 150, which he cannot meet).

The club issued an explanation centered upon respect for the concussion protocol. But as Wittenmyer explains, that wouldn’t seem to mandate this official roster move. While this brand of penny pinching at the expense of an employee isn’t generally justifiable, this contract was negotiated under unusual circumstances. Russell served the bulk of a 40-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence policy at the start of the 2019 campaign.

There isn’t any indication at this point of tension between team and player. But it’s tempting to wonder whether this hints at things to come. Even if Russell returns to action late this year and/or in the postseason, which remains to be seen, the Chicago organization could well be preparing to part ways at season’s end.

The Cubs already made the widely questioned decision to hang onto Russell despite the shameful circumstances of his suspension. He has been a significant part of this year’s team, spending time on optional assignment but also appearing in 76 MLB games. The Cubs control Russell’s rights for two more seasons and likely wouldn’t owe him a huge raise on his existing base salary. But he has not overcome his offensive struggles, turning in a .227/.303/.389 batting line in 229 plate appearances, so it’s amply possible that the club will simply determine that it’s time to move on from a pure baseball perspective.

I take this as Nico is legit. We are not going to pay Russell or even play him.

Bye bye Addi

I think Addi was gone after this season regardless unless he did something to make himself indespensable. His value is next to nil, but he'll be and add on for something I hope. Hope for Whit "I'll get his name right this time" Merrifield.

UPDATE at half way point

6-4 (disappointing vs sd-pit-cin)

3 back for division
1.5 back for #1 wc
Tied for #2 wc

Schedule helps for winning divioson
Schedule hurts for making playoffs

This weekend need help from...sd-mia-pit.....YIKES......will mil and wash lose 2 combined games the next 4 days (7 games)?

Think we need 3 of 4 (min) CD stl to have any realistic chance of sticking around the race heading into next week.

Want reality?

Cubs sweep to go 86-70
Cards at 85-71.

That flips the script where Cubs have 3 easy vs Pitt and STL has a fight at Azi to keep in it. Then they go to Bush in a battle.

That makes this season watchable. Right now not so much. Rizzo at the lead off gave them some life but that was snatched away as soon as they found that missing spark.
