Are you trying to tie a persons willingness to join the military with this in your comparison? I think you are seriously comparing apples to watermelons with that one, if thats the case.

And now for something completely different:

Entire police force in Los Ramones, Mexico quits after gunmen attack headquarters

alg_resize_los-ramones_bullets.jpg
Bravo/Reuters A policeman walks among bullet-riddled patrol trucks after an attack at a police station in the town of Los Ramones. Gunmen shot more than 1,000 rounds and launched six grenades at the building.

The station had been inaugurated just three days earlier.

Mexico’s intelligence chief said this summer that nearly 30,000 people have died in drug related crimes since 2006

PS: I FUCKING LOVE THIS NEW COPY AND PASTE SHIT

Sorry, I just can't let this go yet.

Another Mayor to be in Juarez murdered yesterday... and he wasn't even Mayor yet! Mayor Elect. These are public officials people. Can you imagine if a mayor in the US got publicly murdered in this way? Let alone several? They should just hire mercenaries. They can't do any worse. And at least they won't be on the drug cartel's teet.

Or we should go help. It is pretty unsettling that this shit is going on right next door.

Depends on what you mean by help. I know your not advocating a formal "police action" but it would definately take US military involvement similar to that in Columbia over the last 30 years. It's been pretty obvious the Obama administration is not in favor of enforcing current immigration laws or improving border security so why would they be willing to escalate US invovlement?

One thing that is really disturbing to me is that lately it seems that Mexico is becoming a route of entry for illegal aliens from SE Asia. Two weeks ago the local PD had a high speed chase with a "coyote". Coyote escaped, but they apprehended illegal immigrants from India.

High Speed Chase

For the record I live about 200 miles North of Reynosa, Mexico.

Yeah I don't know that I want the US to get involved, they would probably just half ass the job and not really accomplish anything.

The 20 year did not die. A 36 year old woman police chief did.

The drug violence that has killed more than 31,000 people across the country since December 2006 is tarnishing the country's international image and worrying Washington and some investors.

In and around Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas, some 7,200 people have died in drug violence since January 2008, when Mexico's top trafficker Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman made a push to control the city and its lucrative smuggling routes.

Unnacceptable. Anywhere in the world.

I don't know jack about what's going on in mexico but I find it hard to believer military forces can't overpower the drug cartels. I mean you the Army should have heavy armor. I think we've sold them some military tech too.

Like I said I don't know much about the problem down there so I might be in fact talking out of my ass.

From what I understand there's too much corruption in both local and Federal areas of the Mexican police for anyone to really take a stand.

I agree with Winos, while I think her intentions were honerable I was waiting for her to give up, buy in, or wind up dead... and was surprised she held out this long.
