Sanchez is kind of a dick. Blaming his team for losing all the time and then being awful is a bad combination.

Blue Jay's suck.

Not a fan of them. They have never proven to be a team worthy of respect.

Houston supposedly wants Contreras pretty bad. While I'm not necessarily in favor of trading him... houston has the ability to put together some interesting packages. If they are willing to part with Kyle Tucker or Forrest Whitley I think the discussion becomes more interesting.

Looks like cubs are bringing Morrow back on a minor league deal. That could turn out big if he's healthy. Also are bringing in Dan Winkler on a split deal. He wasn't as good last year but the few years prior was an interesting guy.

The Cubs are ultimately going to have signed Jon Lester ($155M) *and* Yu Darvish ($126M) for less than the price of just Gerrit Cole.

why combine those two contracts? The Lester deal was one of the best large deals in franchise history. The Darvish deal is currently bad and has a potential to climb into mediocrity.

If you listened to fatbeard, there was no way Strasburg was going to opt out and want more $$ for more years ?

Sounds like the angels are in the market for a C. Apropos of nothing... if they'd do some sort of trade with the head line pieces being Jo Adell for Contreras i'd be very interested in it. Adell isn't majors ready IMO but he might be by midseason.

I think those who are in the "Trade Contreras" camp are so because his defensive metrics are average at best and his years of control would garner a good haul. Add in the Cubs have a strong farm for C and he becomes "expendable."

I think they trade Bryant before the season starts to really get under the CBT threshold.

Why on earth do we want to get rid of Contreras so bad?
I wouldn't say I want to get rid of him bad. In fact, I argued a few weeks back I'd trade Bryant before him. The reason I made the comments I did prior to yours were simple. I think Jo Adell is gonna be a stud with very good power who can play CF and he finished last year in AAA. It's going to be harder for the cubs to find a CF than it is for them to get good production out of C given their back up would likely be a starter else where and one of their top 4 prospects is a well regarded catcher not to mention their biggest IFA signing and an over slot draft pick was a HS C. Point being they have a lot of C depth coming up in the minors.

In Adell, mlb.com gave him a 55 grade hit tool and everything else was 60 or above(65 run). In other words, he's not just a 5 tool guy he's pretty close to having 5 plus tools and as mentioned he can play CF. He hit .308/.390/.553 with a 10.4%/22.5% bb/k rate and a 173 wRC+ as a 20 year old in AA last year. Again this is a potential CF we're talking about here. For some perspective of what that is like, look at what a 19 year old Acuna did. He hit .326/.374/.520 with a 7.4%/23.0% bb/k rate and 159 wRC+.

So, if they can trade 3 years of Contreras for 7 of Adell in a position of greater need... I mean I'm all for it. It would suck to lose Contreras but teams are hungry for C and the cubs would be selling pretty high.

I'm wondering if Darvish cost himself money by not opting out after seeing stras' deal and wheeler's deal.

I just keep going back to why was he sitting for 2 out of the 3 pitchers. Caratini was not tearing it up, it leads to personal issues with these guys. Maybe Contrares being elevated to being Lesters personal catcher worked against him. I think he moves around too much for Darvish, doing the Pena splits, setting up late, those are reasons that make me question how "easy" it is to throw to him, but it seems like something really simple to fix.
You simply cannot frame pitches 6 inches off the plate, the location has to be closer. I see those "great" framers pulling an outside pitch to the middle of the plate. Really? The ump did not see that?

Fans are just realizing we cannot bring in new 20 million dollar players every year and pay these guys, so they find a reason to hate. I dont hate Bryant for being upset they renigged on their promise and kept him down one fucking day longer than super 2. I just cant. I do not think anyone put in his situation would get over it either.

When this all started, it was, fine, you can have your build, but are you really ready to watch this same team for a decade? I doubted it then.

Fix the main problem of bringing in Heyward to ruin this broth. Get him moved, fix the mistake.

Adell would be a solid pick up. But it really boils down to Joe's opinion of Contreras as a every day catcher again.

Also, #Angels are heavily engaged in the catcher market, have 6-8 options. GM Billy Eppler said they have active conversations with two teams regarding a trade for a catcher

If it was Adell for Contreras I would be happy with it. Cubs have depth at catcher to adapt and it makes the line up more flexible adding a SH.
