They need to make a decision on Bryant, everyday he is on this team his trade value decreases and his contract with the cubs goes up.

Q falls off the books. Lester is slatted 21:$25M mutual option ($10M buyout) So I just expect the buy out here. 25M for Lester is too much. This year he is making 15M which is inline to what his current worth is.

but going into 2021 they will be 117M under tax before going into arb cases. So they will have some space to makes some decisions. But if they lock up Bryant and Baez (60M AAV) and pull Rizzo's opt $14.5M club option (or $2M buyout due 1/15/21) That absorbs the majority of it. They would only have 34M left to fill a roster including arb cases. Adding another 15M to Lester makes it impossible.

So yes they will have to make hard choices and trading Bryant. Moving Baez to 3B signing Simmons and Ray makes plenty of sense. It adds a younger SP and it upgrades the D of the left side of the IF. IMO those 2 will cost closer to 40 mil then signing Baez to a 25AAV keeps it intact. That is a 65M hit for 3 players. Then pulling Rizzo's opt pushes it to 80M which is doable.

Anywho Yes I did say sign a journey man type on a split deal.

Ivan Nova (34)
Tyson Ross (34)
Jordan Zimmermann (35)

etc. There will be guys looking to rebound for sure. The guy that I would avoid is Bauer. Over rated. 1 great year rest Homer Bailey (whom will be on the market also for cheap)

This is the last installment for the Lester signing bonus.

His cap number his year is still 25,833,333.

Please stop writing he is only making 15million this year.
2020
Contract details by year
36$15,000,000$5,000,000$25,833,333$20,000,000$20,000,000$27,500,000($145,000,000)

Thats base salary, signing bonus, luxury tax salary. payroll salary, adjusted and yearly cash.

Regarding Ross moving Bryant around he played CF in HS and college and then there's this

The latest twist in the Kris Bryant story is that the Cubs have had internal conversations about moving him to center on an everyday basis.

View attachment 4695
Kris Bryant has said multiple times that he prefers the ball coming right at him and that only happens in center. He said this for every year under Maddon but maddon never listened.

One inning, one hit, no runs, Ks or walks, it looks like.

-New Doug
He can control his walks. Guy could be a stud. He allows super weak contact. Its why the Cubs are going to give him every opportunity. He has wipe out stuff

He has nasty stuff. But he's gotta work on those walks.

So they talk about Bryzzo, going 0-4 combined, but they walked twice, and mention Albert Almora when he goes 4-4 with a home run this spring.
This is the frustration in a nutshell, Bryzzo just needs to take walks so the secondary guys need to be super stars.

It is called Spring "Training" Not Spring "Competition"

Some guys are locks and need to work on little things to get into every day playing condition. Others have to prove that they deserve more playing time.

Your case in point:

Almora: 2019 S/T: .377/.389/.604
Reg season: .236/.271/.381

Now he has changed his swing mechanic last off season so he will be very interesting to see how it plays out over the season.

But this is a case in point of why some are just getting their reps in and others have something to prove.

But in general most coaches are not looking at results. They look at timing and mechanics. Velocity. Swing paths. Baserunning. Fielding. and so on. We as fans are only looking at the numbers first and create a value system based off of it.

exactly my point. Why isnt it spring competition. That is what Theo demanded last year when he told Maddening to get off his ass and go on the field and communicate with these guys, get back to coaching. After Council showed that every game means something, Theo wanted competition right out of the gate last year. Got the same hippie shit. You compete in spring training, you are starting off in the killer attitude frame of mind. Please dont give me the shit about early games do not matter. One game mattered in 2018, Theo demanded 2019 be different and got the same shit.

I know, top of the order are your stars to get a couple at bats, run around a little, and put the flip flops on. But anyone not named Bryzzo walks, no big deal, but for christs sake, it spring training, you should be hitting the ball.

How long has Maddon been gone now? 4 months or so? The Idiot is still beating that dead horse. A move to an Angels board seems to be in order. But then if he did, we would all miss his inside info on what everyone says to each other in the Cub organization....he is the proverbial "fly on the wall". :javy:

He likes to give detailed info on old situations as if it is fact when it is usually conjecture conjured up in his little pea brain. Probably thoughts that were bouncing around for months/years that he finally pieced into some somewhat coherent, misinformed thought
