I think the best part is that you've now seen 3 different stars on this team step up and be responsible for winning games, as good as Lavine was, and Derozan too for that mater, last night was all about Ball. We've seen all three of those guys wins games for this team, and that's going to force teams to really have an open game plan to contain them all, it can't just be stop Zach like it was last year. Vuc may not have hit his stride yet, but they keep feeding him the ball and if he starts hitting those shots consistently he's going to be another one to win a game. No one will be able to sleep on anyone. Vuc has hit some huge shots when needs, and he seemed to loosen up a bit last night so maybe that page is turning.
I'm in no way comparing this team to these other teams directly, or saying they are as good, but more the complexity of having a team with so many options, but it kind of reminds me of the GSW team with Curry, Durant, Thompson, Green, probably someone else I'm missing. No, they are not anywhere close to that good, but all those guys on any given night could just take over a game and win it, you couldn't come in game planning to take one of them out and give you any kind of real advantage. To a lesser extent you saw it a bit with Durant, Harden, and Irving a little last year, but I think having four all-star high quality guys like the bulls have is much better than the three headed beast teams that is the recent trend in the NBA. Those mega teams with superstars seem to more likely have one guy have an off night, or get injured and just throw the whole things out of whack by only have 2 guys, and blowing the bench budget on the monster. I think the balance of the Bulls has been great and really showed strategic precision in putting the roster together by AK. I am on the side of having not been overly positive that it would work this off-season.
To that point, I think the construction of this roster, the number of different pieces that have specific roles is perfect for a Billy Donovan coached team. SMALL SAMPLE SIZE still, and I don't expect this team to win it all, but it's super refreshing to see a solid rotation of guys who go in an out at roughly the same time, know their roles while they are in there, defer to the proper guys on the court, and take their shot when it's appropriate. As was previously said, they are FUN. Not just fun to watch win, but fun to watch play. Still early, the true test is about to hit, but if they can go .500 on this road trip, AK and Eversley should get some awards. I would say Donovan too, but it's hard to reward a guy for doing what he just does consistenly. It's so overlooked.
