Yes, 5th worst

bulls themselves are currently 10th in 3 point %
Yeah, so if they clean that up a little.. I think overall defensive abilities would look even better (assuming they keep trying and don't become complacent like last year). I don't view Lonzo Ball as some All-1st Defensive guy who is the reason this team has failed to be good defensively like some have suggested (not anyone in this current discussion). Lonzo certainly would help though.

I’m the guy that definitely thinks Lonzo makes this team a ton better defensively. That opponent 3% would go down with him out there. you remember he’s the guy the bulls would have guard Tatum one night and Lillard the next. That versatility is something the bulls don’t really have outside of Lonzo. Caruso would be the closest, but in reality he’s too small to handle a Tatum

Lonzo would help, but he's not the reason the whole thing falls apart in my opinion. If he is, then he should easily be voted to All-D 1st.

I think lonzo certainly helps defensively but I agree with @Scoot26 that he’s not some type of defensive anchor that’s going to transform the team defensively. Definitely will help though.

If he hadn’t gotten hurt last year he would of had great odds

Marcus smart won defensive player of the year last year with 1.7 steals per game, 0.3 blocks per game and a defensive rating of 107

Lonzo last year avg 1.8 steals, 0.9 blocks, and a defensive rating of 111

And? ?

Are you saying Lonzo was on pace for DPOY? Are you generally a fan of defensive rating metrics? Others may disagree with me here, but any “advanced” defensive stats are kinda laughable IMO. And yes, I’ve always felt this way and have never referenced them when evaluating a player defensively. I’m not just saying this to try to diminish Lonzo’s defense in this instance. He’s definitely a very good defender

We all know defensive metrics don't mean much because they're hard to measure.... and much of the defensive awards system is based on eye tests. Marcus Smart does a lot of things that just can't be measured on the stat sheet.

Leading the league in steals (or being high in that stat) doesn't mean you get All-D either. Otherwise Steph Curry would have made a team.

You could be up there in steals and still be a bad defender. Steals aren’t indicative of overall defensive impact and ability. Conversely, you could not average a lot of steals and be an all world defender

James Harden vs Klay Thompson is a good example of this

Lol everyone getting their panties in a wad I see. I never said defensive metrics were great. Just merely listed the steals, blocks, and rating as a way to show Lonzo had the numbers to be considered a first team all defense player.

And yes, those don’t tell everything about a defender, the eye test is one that plays a part as well. And the eye test tells you lonzo is an excellent defender.

And yes, I know Marcus smart does a lot of things the stats don’t show…you all obviously forget two offseason s ago when I was advocating the bulls trade for smart. I absolutely understand his value and appreciate it more than others on CCS do

Hopefully lonzo gets healthy and can remind you all of the player he is
