Giddey sprained his ankle last night? He's out? Bulls are down another player? For the season?

Wish I could watch, but **** Jerry Reinsdorf.

Is Giddey actually legit, or does someone have to score?
Imo Giddey is a decent complementary offensive piece. If he's your main scorer that is a recipe for the lottery. He can score, but he is really more of a playmaker. Contrast with Coby, who I think thrives more as a scorer than a passer. Giddey would be a solid 3rd scoring option while being a primary ball handler on a winning team, depending on who those other scoring options are, and depending on if his improved shooting this year is present going forward. Obviously he didn't look as great when Zach and Vuc were the guys ahead of him. However, he did average 16, almost 17ppg behind SGA and JDub in OKC in his 2nd year. Take that for what you will.

So short answer is, someone else has to score if you want to win. Giddey does other things well though

Bulls prove there is no end to their self sabotage as they go on probably their 2nd or 3rd 4 game win streak in the last 4 years or so.

On the one hand, I can see the logic of "it's all chance anyway, it doesn't really matter if Bulls are 8th or 10th in the lotto odds because most likely they're stuck where they're at" and statistically, that is probably true. The flip side to that is that actually by moving to 10th from 8th, Bulls cut their odds of jumping into the top 4 by about half (26.3% at 8th vs 13.9% at 10th). Maybe it's proverbial pennies on the dollar, maybe not. Only the lotto balls will tell.

Jerry rubbing his hands together eagerly as the Heat free fall into a tie with us for 9th place (Bulls win the tiebreaker so now we're 9th) which means, currently, a home play in tournament game. MORE MONEY IN JERRY'S POCKETS! More sadness for Bulls fans

Huerter and Tre Jones both look like keepers along with Giddey.

Bulls should find a trade partner for Coby this offseason and clear the way for that trio to handle the backcourt minutes

Tre Jones has been surprisingly good. I'm VERY worried about the price on Giddey. I just dont know if I'm paying him $25M+ a year.

is giddey restricted FA or unrestricted?

if hes restricted its easy to just let him go out and see what he can get on the open market and either match it or decline

if hes unrestricted, it certainly makes things a little more interesting. i do wonder how many teams will have the cap room to sign him for 25+ mil...cant be too many teams that can make that offer straight up without having to do a sign and trade

and maybe a sign and trade is a blessing in disguise for the bulls with him. but man, hes been straight balling post trade deadline

I think the Nets could give him $25M+.

I feel like AK is gonna match whatever is offered, even if it's close to or above 30M :(

However, as mentioned, the right move is the let the market dictate his value. It's probably worth matching anything 25M and under, though 25M makes me feel like suddenly things will go awry.

Still important to remember that in the grand scheme of things, 20 or even 30M is not going to be enormous percentages of the salary cap. Rookies drafted in the top 5 are already making 12 or 14M these days on their rookie scale contracts. We have to cut in half or maybe in third what these contract values are to equate them to what we were used to in say, 2010.

So max contract for Giddey?
Dude's gonna get paid at this rate. Honestly, he has played quite well since the trade deadline. Would've been nice to see over the whole season, but obviously the situation/role was different before. I still worry dude will get paid then regress the next few years

thats kinda the #1 worry with any contract along with injuries, though

i just dont see how the bulls could let him walk when he is a RFA(i believe), young, and they just traded for him last offseason. if the bulls let him walk after this season when there isnt much else to be excited about on the roster, they would face even more backlash than they currently do

its a similar position the cubs find themselves in with Tucker heading into this season

Very little chance that we do not end up regretting Giddey's eventual contract. You just hope AK plays it smarter than he did with Vuc and Pat and doesn't immediately throw a max offer out because they think Brooklyn will.

Do you think Coby at his absolute best, has an argument over BG7 at his best?

Yes, I'm joshing you (for those who don't know the history).

Well yeah, but of course I want to give Giddey the benefit of the doubt and believe he's just playing up to his potential and will continue to do so, but idk I'm too jaded or something.

Objectively, I don't see any way AK doesn't sign him, he specifically traded his arguably most valuable asset for him and him alone. The question is just to how much. It's not like other teams have a ton of cap space and will throw a max contract at Giddey to spite the Bulls...Bulls are likely betting against themselves like they did with Patrick Williams, and thus they should let the market dictate the contract if they're smart.
