I think they’re looking at him as a two year bridge. He had a pec injury in ‘23 but he’s missed just a few games over the last several years.
I’d bet Poles would get a bit more “benefit” from you if he was dumb enough to retain Justin Fields.
Fields is gone and on a franchise that's given him a young & talented OL. I suspect he's going to thrive in New York because the support that matters (the OL) is there and the expectations are low. I'm confident that they're going to have a top running game in the NFL and Wilson is going to have a career year - they'll be harder to stop than expected.
If Poles didn't spend nearly ALL of his major resources on weapons - I'd have much more faith.
-Claypool (traded for 32nd overall pick)
-Moore (traded for 1st round equivalent pick and given largest contract in team history)
-Rome (taken 9th overall)
-Allen (4th round pick for a salary dump one year rental)
-Kmet (given a top 10 TE contract)
-Loveland (top 10 pick)
-Burden (top 40 pick)
vs
-Wright (taken 9th overall)
-Davis (mid tier contract for a fucking bum)
-Jackson (6th round salary dump)
-Thuney (future 4th for a a salary dump one year rental)
That's 2-3x the resources on weapons vs OL talent. They could have kept Justin, gotten the haul and if they had used so little of the resources on the OL I'd still not be a fan because I just don't see this strategy working elsewhere in any meaningful way. It's like going to the grocery store and buying all candy and wondering why you have chronic stomach aches. There's no fucking substance.
