The five most overrated players in the NBA - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

These are five of the most overrated players in the NBA.

Derrick Rose(notes) - Chicago Bulls

For some odd reason, fans of the Bulls feel that Rose gives them a chance to capture the glory days of the Michael Jordan era. But in reality he has done very little to help the team make a serious run at an NBA championship. Rose is limited with his three point shot and has shown the difficulties he has when defending a player of average caliber. If Rose was playing in a smaller market he would be a forgotten player rather than front and center in the NBA marketing department.

Lol...so when you compare Rose's first two years and (by and large) the crap they've surrounded him with to the greatest dynasty in recent sports history, he is struggling? damn, good call!

Give the kid a chance to, idk, turn 22, get some more experience under his belt, and re-evaluate this.

what a jackass.

For the record, the list is, in order:
Rose
Durant
J. Johnson
Jennings
Bosh

That team would win 55+ games.

I think Derrick Rose probably is a top 5 overrated player in the NBA. People tend to rate him as "superstar". He's no where near a superstar caliber player right now. Maybe he becomes one, and lives up to his rating in the long run, but he's pretty far away at the immediate moment.

Kevin Durant being overrated strikes me as hilarious on the surface, but given that he completely melted down in the playoffs against the Lakers and is considered a the second best player in the NBA, I'm willing to say it's not quite as ridiculous as it sounds. Maybe Durant is really the fifth best player in the league instead of the second and he's somewhat overrated.

Joe Johnson being overrated is interesting, because few people seem to rate him particularly highly. If you view his contract as his rating then sure, but everyone seemed to think he was vastly overpaid that I talked to, and I never hear people talk about how great Joe Johnson is.

Brandon Jennings is perhaps overrated, but again, it's a guy who's rating isn't so high. He had some early momentum when he was playing absolutely awesome early in his rookie year, but that momentum, and the talk of how great he was, stopped when his play took a huge nosedive. I doubt anyone has Jennings in their top 50 players, and maybe not in the top 100. It's hard to argue that a guy ranked that low is "overrated" terribly, especially when he at least has great potential and is as young as Jennings.

Bosh could be overrated I suppose, because a lot of people lumped him in with LeBron and Wade as the big three and he's a couple notches below their level. However, I don't think many fans ever believed Bosh was at their level just that he was better htan the other guys available due to age and injury risk. He strikes me as a guy who's a top 15 player that most people rate accordingly.

I suppose, it's difficult to make an overrated list fairly, because if a guy is truly overrated then everyone will disagree with it because they overrate the player. So even an accurate overlist would be laughed at and only proven out over time.

Of the names on the list and how I see fans perceive the rating of those players, only Rose really strikes me as particularly overrated though, but that's because I'm in Chicago. If I was hanging out with BUcks fans I'd probably find a lot more guys who think Brandon Jennings is the second coming.

I guess it is mostly personal preference. From my view..I dont think Rose is Supergod or anything like that. I think he's an All-Star caliber player who has a chance at becoming a superstar. He's not there yet and may never get there.

I can see where you rank Durant as is because of how he fell apart in the playoffs. Okay fine. He's been there one year. We'll see how he comes back this season.

And I really dont know anyone who thinks that highly of Joe Johnson. Butto what he makes in his contract...Vastly overrated.

Derrick Rose is a top 15-25 player, and it is hard to find anybody who believes otherwise.

Chris Bosh is rated properly from what I can tell. Most people think that him going to Miami as a 3rd scoring option was his way of saying that he can't lead a team to a championship.

Kevin Durant does it all. To say he's overrated is like saying LeBron James is overrated, or Melo.

Joe Johnson is rated just fine... he's just overpaid.

And say what you want about BJ being overrated. Sure, he shoots at a low percentage but he changed the entire dynamic for the Milwaukee Bucks on offense... and he's just a rookie. I understand that he shoots at too low of a percentage, but have no doubt that his presence on the floor is well noticed by the opposing defense.

...All in all... that's a really bad list... sorry.

Anybody cam get a job sports-writing for yahoo... that is seriously some of the stupidest stuff I've ever read from a "big name" website. Whoever thinks Durant doesn't play defense has never actually watched him play.

Some people do overrated Rose. I think it would be ridiculous to put him ahead of Paul or Williams. I think he has more potential than either one, but to say he's better...right now... ridiculous.

I wouldn't even put Rose over Chauncey Billups yet.

The main thing that takes away from this article's credibility is that they put Durant on this list... and not Anthony, LeBron, or Kobe.

WHO exactly refers to Durant as the second best player in the league? Name the top 5 players and all of them have had dismal playoff showings at one point or another, I think you are exaggerating quite a bit on Durant's "dismal" performance anyway.

I think there is some dislike for Rose/Durant in this article. I can see one that does belong in this category.......Bosh. He's never played a single game of importance. Closest thing he had was last year to get into the playoffs. Oops, wonder who knock that little dream down the drain..?.. :bulls::bulls::bulls:

The Jennings thing, I won't call him overrated or underrated. He is still on a come-up like Rose.

I totaly disagree with Rose and Durant they both have been good since they entered the league. Also i watched FIBA thsi year and Rose has improved his shot alot now it is still not great but it is better. I sort of agree with the bosh being overrated and i thought that before the big three. He is a good shooter doesn't play great defense.

If you were to tell Bulls fans that the Bulls will start winning championships soon, I dont think anyone believes it will touch when Jordan played.

So this is a wild assumption from the top.

But beyond that, Kenny Smith and several others say Derrick Rose is a top 3 PG. I could listen to them or I could listen to this scrub who's no more qualified to comment than any of us.

I've heard several people refer to Durant as the 2nd best player in the NBA. His TS% dropped 10% in the playoffs and his PER dropped 10 points. If he put up his season average in efficiency in the playoffs the Thunder would have scored 5 more points per game on the same number of shots, and they would have won the series.

Note, I'm not saying Durant is overrated, I'm just saying if I were to make the case, it would be because of the playoff performance and the fact that many people I've talked to have him as the #2 guy in the NBA.
