Problem with hockey is it doesn't have much exposure. They never televise games on big networks like ESPN or TNT. To my knowledge, ABC rarely ever does until the playoffs. As for baseball, most like myself find it boring and then there are also some of us, again myself included, that hate cheaters. The steroid problem in the MLB is astronomical. Doesn't really surprise me that the Lakers are number one. I bet if that poll was re-done today though the Heat would be number one.

the NBA teams have a lot fans globally.. which is why the Lakers, Bulls, Heat, Knicks, and celtics are high.

If they were to find a way to have only American twitter followers, FB "likers" and w/e.... I'm sure NFL teams would dominate this list.

According to their criteria, FC Barcelona demolishes the Lakers (the article says "in America"). And Cristiano Ronaldo blows them both away (not a team).

The Bulls blow the doors off the Bears, in total worldwide popularity, but the Bears are far more popular in the US. I don't consider this method accurate at all for ranking popularity.
