Well the last game they lost that season was to a Pacers team that came in with 50 wins. So I wouldn't say they took their foot off the gas, but that they got beat by a good team.

The 96 Bulls team easily could've won 74 or 75 games. They lost a few games down the stretch by a point which seemed like they kind of took their foot off the gas after they got the record.

They played 3 games after they broke the record.

OK? They were going to get the record with relative ease in the last few weeks of the season. I'd say they probably coasted a bit to rest for the playoffs and because they knew they could lose a few games and still secure the win record, that's all I'm saying. Looking back, they definitely could've been 74-8 or better. But that's not what this topic is about, so I digress.

Your sentence made it sound like they took their foot off the gas AFTER they broke the record, and my point was they only played 3 games after they broke it and won 2 of them..not exactly taking their foot off the gas on that one.... But clarifying....April wasn't a strong month for the Bulls that year, I give you that as they had everything locked up already seed wise and HCA wise, the only thing to do was break the record.

After they broke the record, what else was there for them to prove? I'd say they definitely coasted in their last 3 games. The fact that they still won 2 of 3 and only lost by 1 to the Pacers is just a testament to how good that team really was. Seems to me like they may have let up on their intensity throughout April to get fully healthy and focused for the playoffs.

Well, they kind of did take the foot off the gas all-season long. It was about 65 games that had 12+minutes of garbage time.
