8.1 Earthquake off west coast of Mexico + Updated 7.1 quake in Mexico City

At first it was an 8.0, then an 8.2, now an 8.1? I Guess it's all being sorted out. High aftershock activity.

The US Tsunami Warning System said the earthquake was a potential tsunami threat to several Central American countries, including the Pacific coastlines of Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, El Salvador and Costa Rica. It added that the threat was still being evaluated for Hawaii, Guam and other Pacific islands. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake's epicentre was over 600 miles away near the small town of Pijijiapan in southern Chiapas state. It was at a depth of around 20 miles, it added.

Crazy, 8.2 is no joke. Tsunami warnings and international crisis workers and media are all dispersed nearly everywhere as is.

Some outlets reporting this may be upgraded to a 8.4 magnitude. Every order of magnitude is significant. Like an 8.0 would be similar to 15 megatons of TNT, and an 8.4 would be something like 60 megatons. a 9 would be like 475 megatons. It's late and I'm doing this in my head, but it's crazy.

Just a comparison on tracking updates. People in Mexico City felt it, many are sleeping in the street because that's safer than in their homes. Mayor reporting no major damage there, so that's some good news.

My sister, her husband and my two nieces felt it in Guadalajara. Closer to the epicenter than Mexico city and well I am not even sure if I had family staying at the condo in Nuevo Vallarta right now. Anyone along the coastal cities should be getting the **** out.

Death toll at 248 as of 1AM. Around 30 children and 22 adults reported as missing, and who knows how many are actually missing. Insanely sad.
