The Blackhawks have decided to bring back Jamal Mayers for another year for a $600K cap hit. $550K will be guaranteed money while $50K will be paid in bonuses.

Mayers, 37, contributed 6 goals and 9 assists in the regular season along with a minus-4 rating on the 4th line for the majority of the year. The NHL veteran of 14 seasons (St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks) appeared in 3 playoff games this season, but was scratched for the remainder of the series against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Yet he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs for no reason. I like the signing but still think Blackhawks management is fucking clueless.

Glad they signed him, I like the guy.

But why the **** would you bencha guy in the playoffs if you plan to resign him? The players must hate this front office. Not good.

So if Q has a good rapport with Mayers from his St Louis days, but Mayers is a healthy scratch in playoffs. Did Q lose confidence in Mayer at the end of the year? Stanbo re-signs him, are these two on the same page? WTF !

I can't wait to see our summer time acquisitions. Will they be cheap, old, slow, and gray ?

I think some people here are fucking clueless

Playing or scratching a guy doesn't mean a coach likes/dislikes someone. Has nothing to do with the front office either

But...let's try to stir something up, just for the sake of making stuff up

No one said Q dislikes Mayers. How does this have "nothing to do with the front office?" Did Toews sign him to a contract? Did Mayers bench himself in the playoffs?

Although I liked Mayers, I'm not sure why they are bringing him back. We now have 21 guys under contract with around $6M in cap space. We need a defenseman and a center. On most nights, I would expect Mayers to be a scratch especially with Carcillo returning and the additions of Hayes, Shaw, and Bollig.

What does 'did Toews sign him' mean?

What players must the the front office?

If Mayers hated the team armor the front office, why resign?

I know, I know...no one in te front office has a clue.

Neith must NJ's for not signing the great hometown boy to coach them, instead signing the guy Talon fired to bring in his boy Dineen. While the fires coach goes to the finals

I don't think Bollig is signed yet

There's a pretty decent chance that there may be a trade or two

The cap may still go up 2-3 mil

Yea I'm fucking clueless alright.

And with the looming lock out, Cap may very well go down too. The NHL is positioning itself for no hockey. Not sure if you noticed or not.

No one is saying Mayers hated the front office or vice versa. Holy overreaction. Are you drunk? I could barely read this post.

Too much self masterbation.

My "clueless Management" comment stands.

Not only were the coaching staff NOT on the same page, but the GM or Upper Management was NOT on the same page as the coaching staff. Anyone listening to the exit interviews along witht the fiasco with Havi can clearly see that.

Right now this teams management looks fucking clueless. No question.

And Like Jamal, I think he ws a good signing then, and I think it's a good sign now.

You said...did Toews sign him to a contract...what does that mean?

NJ didn't hire the great Mike Haviland...and are going to the Cup with the coach Talon fired. Was NJ clueless in not hiting Haviland..Does NJ not need 'hockey people' either? Maybe Talon should have kept Deboer?

I'm pretty sure in the thread here..was said...'the players must really hate the front office', or are you too drunk to have missed that?

And...let's see how much hockey is missed or how much the cap goes down.

You really want me to answer that? I'm not sure you'll like the answer you get.

Although I'm not sure "hate" is the correct adjective. Maybe frustrated would be better.

You said, "this has nothing to do with the front office" so I was poking the bear with a tongue in cheek comment. If front office has nothing to do with it, then who signed him?

Also, why would NJ hire Mike Haviland when they are in the middle of a Cup run?

Cap space doesn't matter to me, its just the fact that we have 21 players signed right now. I think you are right though, there should be a trade or two. I hope this means none of the other UFA's will be returning.

And I'm sure the front office is frustrated with some of the players as well

But...that's the coaches fault here...

They passed on Haviland to hire Deboer

But the Hawks allegedly let go a great hockey mind in Haviland this year. Why didn't NJ hire him when they let Sutter go...I believe they interviewed and passed on him? Maybe Haviland isn't that big of a deal?

We'll never know the reasoning behind that. Perhaps they wanted a guy that had a bit more experience as head coach at the NHL level? Someone who was more familiar with east coast hockey? Anything would be speculation.

If I was in the front office...I'd be frustrated at,

Keith's 'not feeling it' after giving him a boatload of money

Kane's off ice bad drunk publicity again

Sharp's invisibility in the playoffs

Bickell's first 70gms this year

Frolik getting a raise...then his season

Crawfords inconsistent year

Hjarllmarsson signing that offer sheet, and mailing it in

It's the same speculation that goes on that Haviland is a great hockey mind on the bench/in meetings here...and no one knows that without sitting in the meeting rooms

Have you ever spoke to Haviland before? Attended a prospect camp? Attended a practice? I'd say he's a pretty good hockey guy.
