The Blackhawks lost to the Canucks tonight in less-than-stellar fashion as the Canucks steamrolled the United Center and popped the Blackhawks 6-2.
The Sedin sisters combined for five points on the night as the Canucks slaughtered the Blackhawks penalty units with five goals.
Booth opened the scoring in the first period by picking up his own rebound on the power-play and lifting it right over Crawford's left side. Nearly seven minutes later, Frolik surprised Luongo with a shot from the left boards tying the game.
In the second period, Aaron Rome and Daniel Sedin both connected on the power-play putting the Canucks ahead 3-1, but the Blackhawks didn't give up yet.
Minutes later, Carcillo tangoed with Volpatti trying to energize the Blackhawks bench.
It worked momentarily, Marcus Kruger grabbed another rebound off Jamal Mayers shot and tucked it back-hand cutting the lead for the Canucks 3-2.
But before the Blackhawks could regain their life, Jannik Hansen potted another power-play goal 43 seconds later to crush any momentum created for the Blackhawks.
The night snowballed from there. Hamhuis wired a slap shot into the net for another power-play goal putting the Canucks in the drivers seat for the rest of the game.
Mayers ended the 2nd period by exchanging fists with Kevin Bieksa in an attempt to rid all frustrations for the team heading into the 3rd period.
Unfortunately, the frustrations continued all the way into the third period. Midway through the final frame, Carcillo was ejected from the game with the referees slapping a game misconduct to go along with his roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
The Canucks capped their night off by scoring on the ensuing power-play, killing any chance for the Blackhawks to come-back.
The saddest part about this night was not only the undisciplined play that resulted in the penalty killing units (unsuccessfully) getting the brunt of the work, but the failed power-play is once again a major flaw in the Blackhawks system. Over nine minutes of power-play action, but once again the Hawks special teams unit was shutout again; unable to muster even one goal on the man advantage.
Kane and Bolland both struggled at the dot, combining for a 30% success rate. Toews managed to keep his head above water while Mayers and Kruger combined for an impressive 9-for-1 in face-off wins.
Although the puck didn't bounce the Hawks way tonight, the positive spin is that our secondary scoring was productive. Frolik, Kruger, Stalberg and Mayers all gaining a point tonight.
Despite that fact, the Hawks can't expect to win these types of games without getting the power-play to click. It's quite obvious this is the Blackhawks weakest area, at what point do teams begin to take penalties without any fear of the Hawks scoring? It may have already begun, time to right the ship and this begins with putting players in the correct roles.
Random thought to end with: When does Kruger get a shot with some real players?
