The best bargaining chip this year is the draft itself.

From what I have heard a lot of people saying, this years class may be one of the deepest and best in many years. If that's the case, a first rounder is just as good as a second rounder this time around. We might want to be extra picky if we're getting anything back.

They always say that this draft class is the deepest ever. First you hear about how it's not that deep but running up to draft day it gets deeper and deeper and there's a bunch of can't miss prospects in lower rounds.

Right on... plus we all know the deepest draft ever was 2011. Saad in the 2nd round... Shaw in the 5th round... both in the NHL already.

Eh, the only thing I have noticed over the past 12 months re the 2013 Draft is that the scouts and analysts have scaled back on their original hype about it being multiple rounds deep. It's pretty usual for them to do this and in addition to scale back on the depth of the 1st Rd. as we all have seen but with this Draft I have not seen them back off from touting that this is a particularly deep 1st Rd. 1-30 which is uncommon.

I'm not sure about that, but only because about half the first round is projected to be European... so I don't know too much about them.

Here is an article that says it's really not so deep: The Hockey News

If it is deep, Columbus has to be salivating with three picks in the first round, and currently in the playoff hunt without Rick Nash.

Hmmm... If that's the case then this is more of a middle of the road kind of draft. We still might be able to come up with something nice.

it's top heavy for sure, three potential franchise players.

Hmmm. Well I guess some/THN are scaling back. For me, I still don't think it's lacking depth. Looking at THN's latest Draft ranking from only 4 days ago I'd personally say that any Draft where you can still theoretically get Lazar, Ristolainen, Zadorov, Gauthier, Domi, Horvat, Morrissey, Fucale, De La Rose and some other nice skaters after the Top 10 in Rd. 1 pretty substantive.

For us, anyways.

EDIT: I think we'll agree that Saad being available in the second round was a steal, too.
