Patrick Kane scored the game-winning goal (16) to give Chicago the edge over Detroit, along with pushing their win streak to three games. This season the Hawks are 3-0-2 against the division-leading Red Wings, each game has been decided by a single goal--twice in overtime.

Not only did the Blackhawks win another tight game, but they also produced another goal on the power-play as well with Patrick Sharp notching the first goal (25) of the game with a shot from the top of the left circle that happened to be tipped by a Red Wing defender before beating Jimmy Howard. The Wings responded minutes later with their only tally of the game.

The Red Wings lost Jakub Kindl early in the game as well as Jimmy Howard after the 1st period. Joey MacDonald started the 2nd period and finished the game for Detroit. He played well, but Patrick Kane was able to beat him with the game-winning goal late in the middle frame as he bobbled the puck past a defender and finished it off in close.

Ray Emery was brilliant, making all but one stop for a stellar .958 save percentage. The goal he conceded looked rather weak initially but certainly did not phase him or the Hawks and may have been deflected off a Hawk defender in front.

All and all, the Blackhawks won another important game. Not only for the fact that the two points are crucial when facing a division rival, but simply for the fact that they were outhit, out-shot, terrible at the dot, and still found a way to not only keep themselves in the game, but win in regulation.

One last thing: In the picture above, how is this not a holding call? Story of the year.

BLACKHAWKS THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Patrick Kane

2. Patrick Sharp

3. Ray Emery

Looked a little precarious at times, but Emery did his job. The defense gave the puck away in their own zone too often and didn't clear it quick enough. PP looked shaky, seems like the guys are fumbling the pass receiving quite often. Too many penalties, but the PK was aggressive and made it difficult for the Wangs. Good win, now keep on trucking and beat those smug Blues.

Any reason Lepistö only got barely 6 minutes of icetime? Surely he could handle at least 10 minutes more? Q being Q, I guess.

Its interesting to see how much of a difference a bit of team toughness, physical play and some hitting can do for a team.

i may be wrong, but isnt det a pretty good home team?

I think you are right, especially the way they are not called for all the cheap shit they do.

We've played them very good all year.

Well, this team looks a lot better with their physical play then they did a month ago. 3 straight wins with this style and effort.

If they can keep the consistancy no doubt that team not only makes the playoffs but does well in them.

I think the biggest question is can they. This team the last 3 games is not the same <attitude>, <responsibility> they showed during the 9 and 4 game losing streak.

Maybe they took the NOTHING done at the TDL as an insult that "they" were not holding up their end of the bargain.

And I will add Oduya has looked good and obviously helped out the D.

Yet they've been clearly out hit in in each of these great games. I wonder how that works, physical, but yet not.

lack of quality chances as well. Responsible forwards back checking, clogging the blue line and the D being responsible, helping each other out, for the most part.

Soft goals hurt, poor team defense KILLS!

Being out hit doesn't really determine that they were/were not playing physical. The fact that they are finishing their checks, trying to put a body on the puck carrier, not giving up easy shots on net and grinding it out to me are more important then out hitting the opponent statistically.

Confidence when your goaltender makes routine saves.....GIVES LIFE (and a fighting chance to win)

Not sure it's physcial or more so playing responsible hockey.

I'm going with Responsible hockey but see what you are trying to say. Just pointing out the stat.

There is no doubt they have been more responsible, especially 5on5. Both of those adjustments have helped tremendously. If you get Toews back and Hammer/Montador this team could be dangerous.

I don't think Q played Lepisto or Olsen for a single shift in the third period.
