No way Burish does this either. I don't think 3/4ths of the Hawks can make the first play. Im not sure if 3/4ths of the league can. That's just pure speed and strength creating that goal.

Stalberg creates just as many chances with his speed as he does getting ice time with bigger talent. I actually could care less who who plays with to get his points (personal opinion) If Kane or Toews or Sharp or Hossa make him a better player then that's a bonus rather than a negative. He has wicked speed which helps out everyone on whatever line he is on and he is cheap as far as cap hit/salary goes. I can't see what the problem is with him. His hands and his finish are just going to get better. He's not fully developed yet. He may actually even get faster and stronger on his skates!! That's a scary thought.

No one could have scored anyone of those goals Trev because no one would bust their ass to get to those areas. Not a single one of those videos was Stalberg camping in front of the net for garbage, every single one he was busting his ass to get to a hole and beating a defender except for the last video (which was a big defensive lapse). All of those are good goals, Kruger doesn't see those chances because he never gets there to make the play.
It's his speed that allows him to see that chance, without it, he wouldn't be in the NHL. 4 our of the 5 videos you posted, he beat a defender to the net. That's not bad positioning, that's beating a guy one-on-one because he's that fast.
His hands started to catch up with his speed last season, it's harder to control a puck at top speed especially when your top speed is above and beyond the rest. I'm not saying Stalberg will be an all-star, but my God if his hands ever fully caught up to his speed he would be extremely dangerous, a legitimate top line threat, and potentially could be an all-star. He took steps last season, but I would be surprised if anyone that fast could ever handle a puck well at top speed like that.
Not regarding your post with this comment, but regarding his puck handling skills, if people want to compare and say someone like Versteeg has great puck skills, take a look at when he stick handles... he plays the game at half the speed as Stalberg. Most guys don't handle the puck well at top-end speed, but can do it when they aren't moving their feet. Stalberg has done a good job in that area considering the fire trail he leaves behind him.

I scored all those goals playing street hockey. Every single one of them. Never did on skates though. I was a stay at home blueliner on ice because I couldn't skate. By the time I got to our own blueline the play was back in our zone after the puck being in the offensive zone for 45 seconds. I can't skate!!!
Ton is right. Obviously it's Stalbergs speed which has got him to this level so far and it certainly helps him get to the net. Will agree after watching a shit load of Stalberg clips...that guy drives to the net haaaard and fast. Probably what I really like about him. He just goes and goes. I just see it also as a player the Leafs let go. That's usually a positive sign cause they suck at evaluating talent. They didn't even keep Versteeg those idiots!!! However in the long run they traded Stalberg for a 1st and third which I don't think anyone would be upset with. Anyways..it's the Leafs they suck and Stalberg will prove it once again.

Trev thanks for posting those other clips. Some of those passes were fun to watch again. **** there is a lot of talent on this team. Its upsetting me that a lockout is coming because Im ready for hockey and the Hawks again. Kind of getting depressed thinking about the lock out now. God those plays were unreal.
I still think guys like Toews liked playing with Stalberg esp after having to suck up playing with a slooooooow sloppy over the hill Brunnette as a wingman lol. God he sucked!!! too bad we cant do an evaluation on him because I have some real nasty words about him. I was NOT a fan and I think he alone cost the Hawks a lot of games last season.
I like talking about players like Stalberg. It's too easy talking about the Toews and Kanes. Guys like Stalberg have more question marks and are working at a different level and pressure. Fringe players are usually the more interesting ones to talk about from a fan standpoint. I have really enjoyed the write ups you guys have been doing.

Yes, his speed helped him create seperation, I get that and agree. Other though such as the Pens goal above, where Orpik doesn't even bother covering him, or the Florida goal above (Dman and backchecker take the exact player creating a 2 on 1 with Kane sliding it to the open Stalberg) he's just wide open. That was the point of the whole thing, his linemates really helped him get a lot of those goals. Grant it he capitalized on them, so A+ for him.
Stalberg has a lot of the physical tools, I just don't see it there with the hockey sense and am interested to see if he can do it again or if last season was his career year.
I hope he keeps proving me wrong.

I guess Brett Hull's linemates (Oates...Janney...Gretzky) could be the result of several tap ins too. Same with Jari Kurri, Glen Anderson....can go down the list.

What's your point? Oates was one of the best playmakers of the 90s. Hull was the best goal scorer of the 90s.
Comparing Stalberg and Kane to Kurri and Anderson with Gretzky isn't even an example, just plain stupid.

Well, being in the right spot for a "tap in goal", with the stick on the ice...is a part of having the "hockey sense" to be in the right spots at the right time. He's had ton of chances all year - which leads me to believe he has the sense to do that/be in those places.
Or his goals were tap ins that were created by Kane or his linemates - well, every good/decent goal scorer has had a good playmaker creating those chances...so I'm not sure where/why "tap ins" are a negative against a players skill - as reading your posts were leading to believe.
His next step in his development is building consistency. Finishing more on some of his scoring chances or not going as long between scoring. It doesn't equate to him scoring more goal per se, but just scoring more consistent through the year. He can be a 22-27g scorer in this league, the more consistent he gets. But he has hockey sense and tap ins because of linemates doesn't define him.

That doesn't mean that those skaters are decent just means who they are playing with is getting them the puck for easy goals or doing the work.

My point is Stalberg is getting by with his physical tools. His mental skills are not at the same level. He knows his role on the 1st line and that is to go to the net for rebounds or back door plays. That does not mean he has no hockey sense, nor does it mean he has great hockey sense. Stalbergs stats are a product of his very skilled linemates. Yes, his size and speed complements them, but his production/chances were because of some great passes and set ups.
I just don't see the hoopla about him. I've been wrong before, plenty of times. Have to wait and see.
