(I PMed you)

I hate the PK...hate the way D cover lanes to block shots instead of tying people up. But it's kind of taken over the last 8+ years. They seem to rely on blocking shots too much. It's not just the Hawks...but every team's style. I think the philosophy is to not take yourself out of the play by covering one person.

And this is the one thing that drives me nuts too. And ad PMXC points out it is not new to the league, and the 'Hawks have been doing it for quite sometime (at least since the lockout...can't remember about before hand).

I think that is because of how easy it is to be called for interference these days. "tying players up" isn't as easy to do as said.

I would like to see a more agressive PK is all..attacking the puck a little more. But at the same time they must be doing something right there as they do amount a good lot of sh chances. Maybe another issue on the PK is goalkeeping? Craw and Emery haven't exactly stood on their heads during penalty kills either. They have to be able to kill a few off singlehandedly themselves here and there.

AHAI (runs Illinois hockey) has a seminar every year at the UC where youth coaches can have a Q and A with the Hawks coaches, trainers, and team doctors.

I attended two years ago and someone asked about why we don't see the Hawks tying guys up any more. I believe it was Q who said he wants his D to stay in front of the opposition in front of the net to block shots instead of being between the other team and our goalie. So it is something the Hawks have been told to do.

It doesn't work well though....

The SH chances have nothing to do with the system, and everything to do with the talent being put out on the PK. When you have guys like Sharp, Bolland, Toews, and Hossa killing penalties, SH chances are inevitable. Regardless of how pathetic the PK system is.

though it is strange that when we are short handed, I think we are more likely to score than when we have an extra man.
