A war documentary series, that's just amazing. I just watched the Battle of Sugar Loaf Hill on Okinawa. Anyone interested in our Greatest Generation owes it to themselves to watch this show dedicated to the great battles our guys fought . I sat in awe of what the 29th Marines withstood to capture the hill. They started with almost 300 men, and only 60 walked off that island alive.

RIP and God bless em all!

dunno..Maybe some streaming site?

I'll probably have to wait awhile before it comes on the legal streaming sites...

Either way, I'd like to see this. WWII has always been a great interest to me and I try to learn as much about it as I can.

At my work I became friends with a guy named Joe. Just turned 18 and signed up for the marines during WWII....

He was in the pacific and both Guam( I think) and Iwo Jima. He was 2nd wave machine gunner...I was one of the few he spoke to about the war n honestly, i just wanted to give him a hug.

I don't think anyone can understand what those men went through until they read 'With the Old Breed'. It's a famous n all true book.

I read a lot of horror novels and that book hands down is the most horrifying and frightening book I've read. If there was an hell on earth, it was in the Pacific during WWII. Seriously, I had to stop reading this book sometimes to splash some water on my face and compose myself... It was a very tough and upsetting story. I nearly broke down a few times thinking bout my buddy Joe

I think everyone owes it to themselves and more importantly to all my guys in WWII and beyond .

WWII is an interesting war with tons of great documentaries and then you have Band of Brothers and movies and then there is the Nazi party and all the Holocaust stuff.

I feel like I burned out on it a bit when I was a teenager.... I used to watch History channel all day and if anyone remembers History channel prior to their new shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers..... all they ran for long stretches of time was WWII stuff or Holocaust documentaries.

Not that WWII is no longer interesting to me, I wanna check this out, but man it is a flooded market of material.

I guess that's part of the reason I have always had an interest in WWI.... lol its such an uncovered subject in school, on TV, in movies, video games, documentaries.

Its not as flashy as WWII and the war wasn't as long and didn't have a villain like the Nazi party, but I always wish it was covered better.

what did I say??!!!!!!!!

you said you knew a guy who fought in world war II? or are you going on about jared allen in this thread too?

my grandfather's aircraft carrier was sunk by 2 kamikaze off iwo jima. According to a survivor, my grandfather made it off the ship but was strafed in the water. My mom was 4.

I am an absolute ww2 (and general industrialized war) fanatic.

Ares, there is a good book about wwI called "Over There".

No I actually clicked on this when it linked- I wouldn't bring this stuff into a WWII thread- totally by accident(srs)

I read it, along with "Helmet for My Pillow" and the other books that "the Pacific" was based on. Great books but shitty show (they wasted a huge opportunity to tell that story). The stuff in "With the Old Breed" about Sugar Loaf and the Shuri line was seriously fucked up.

Another good book about Sugar Loaf is Killing Ground on Okinawa: The Battle for Sugar Loaf
