I realize this board is filled with a ton of meatballs/ conspiracy theorists

Breer is a sourced reporter. This isn't an opinion piece. The fact the bears wanted to expedite Williams private visit after meeting with him on consecutive nights speaks volumes.

On Wednesday at 10:40 p.m. (the second-to-last window of the night), Chicago had its formal interview with Williams in the suites of Lucas Oil Stadium. Poles was joined by the five people who are the point men in the Williams evaluation process: coach Matt Eberflus, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, pass-game coordinator Thomas Brown, assistant GM Ian Cunningham and team president Kevin Warren.

Clearly a smokescreen as they didn't include the real decision maker - Tanesha Wade.

Pretty clear Poles wants all the validation for CW before letting Fields, and “the haul” go. I don’t think he gives a **** for any other option but those 2.
What gives you that impression?

It feels like the Bears should do something tomorrow, if they're going to do anything.

So the Bears wanted to meet with him immediately for a private visit and he said no because he has to put on a pro day exhibition for all the other teams to see him...?

Make it make sense.

Well, Poles has been upfront about wanting to get through their process as fast as possible. I'm sure for a lot of reasons, but he has also been clear about not wanting to leave Fields hangin

Schefter said today (one of the networks can't remember) by the time Chicago asked Williams was already back on a plane, to Cali. Then back on a plane to Florida to continue training. Sounds to me that by the time Chi conjured the idea, he was no longer in town.

Assuming his Cali trip was just for a day or so. They probably asked thinking he was still in Indy.

It seems weird, I'm sure if the team can fly to interview coaches they could do the same if they were really in a rush to meet with him before free agency.

I mean if they know they are taking him and just want one more extended meeting to confirm, why must they wait two more weeks for him to supposedly train for a pro day exhibition?

It seems like the Bears are waiting on better offers to come in, maybe for Justin or maybe for the #1 pick.

Him AND the Bears changed it. But keep making up scenarios in your brain

Lol, explain how the Bears wanted to meet with him sooner AND then they decided to meet with him much later

I know what the report states happened, but make it make sense...?

The interview was set up before the combine. It was changed after the combine and after meeting with him Wednesday night and then meeting his team again on Friday

"The idea was pretty simple. Chicago wanted to check some final boxes before finalizing its plan at quarterback before free agency starts next week. In the end, WILLIAMS AND THE TEAM decided to move things around: Rather than shuttling the quarterback to and from California again, in the midst of preparations for his March 20 pro day, the Bears will host Williams in Chicago shortly after that instead.

But the idea alone tells you plenty about where the team is."

The Bears want Williams' medicals ASAP before they trade Fields. Looks like they're not getting them.

Yeah, I don't think we need to overthink it. The Bears, not Williams, were actually the ones looking be different by having such an early visit.

It sounds like they had a good combine interview/discussion and that essentially de-risked any concerns letting the Bears be more 'normal' in the approach to bringing a player to their facility.

As for why not fly to him, I think the entire point is to bring him in to the team's facility to meet with coaches, staff, doctors, show him the area, etc. So, flying a small group to him is not at all the same thing.

Might be mistaken but the 30 visits normally take place after pro days so meeting with the Bears right after the combine would have been the exception
