I've seen lots of chatter that Alex Smith to the Bears is close...

While Alex Smith balled out in KC, he is very injury prone similar to how Mitch and Jay were.

His leg literally exploded.

Why would we want Smith over Wilson? Watson has similar injury problems but at least he's young af.

Alex Smith's leg injury was far, far worse than your run of the mill ACL like Watson had. Dude almost lost the leg. He also turns 44 in September. Absurd move.

True availability and price? Considering both, there's no reason to not get Smith if you want him, feel he's better than Foles, while still going for Wilson. Find a way to trade Foles on the Wilson deal if that ever has a possibility of happening. Don't really care here but they are not mutually exclusive.

I don't think you quite have it right.

I think most of us would take Russell Wilson over Alex Smith.

But if Russell Wilson isn't an option because Seattle says no, would you rather take Alex Smith, or one of the also rans like Teddy Bridgewater, jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and Andy Dalton?

A half broken Alex Smith is better than any of those options.

And we already have our own also ran on the roster in Nick Foles.

Again Russell Wilson first if you can get him.

If you can't, I don't see anyone making a compelling argument that Alex Smith isn't the best of the leftover bunch.

I'm not sure Smith would be better than a lot of those names unless it comes down to contractual things. Any talks/leaks about bears and Smith are probably more useful to them getting fans on board with going after Mariota imo. But that's just IMO!

A couple facts:
1. Alex Smith is better than Nick Foles
2. Alex Smith is accustomed to this offense
3. Alex Smith has a smoking hot wife
4. Alex Smith had a successful leg transplant
5. Alex Smith has (probably) robotic parts in his leg

The bigger question is why wouldn't you want him starting next season????

I guess when you put it like that, seems less unreasonable. But regarding the leg transplant/cyborg chit, I think that's really something a standalone thread should address...

The main thing is look at the success he had in this type of system in Kansas City.

And you still have the ultimate reliever coming off the bench since you know Smith likely won't play all 16 games.

The one thing I also like about it as well is that with one guy coming back from a gruesome leg injury and his backup being a statue, maybe the Bears finally start addressing the offensive line. ???

Alex Smith is a great story.

Here's something that's overlooked with Alex Smith - He's not a good NFL QB.

I'm serious. He's not good. In his 14 year career he had one really good season with Harbaugh and one really good one with Andy Reid. Here's the most important part. Right after that 'really good' season both Harbaugh and Reid looked to replace Smith. What does that tell you?

His last two seasons in Washington due to a bonehead contract it would have cost more to cut him then it would have to keep him, so the team rode it out hoping he'd retire.

Anyway, let's focus on how he's played last season because that would be after injury and the most recent example of an older player. His 5-1 QB record is nice, but 198 yards per game, 6 TDs and 8 Ints? His QB rating was 78.5 and his QBR was 35. Just to compare to Carson Wentz' terrible season he had a QB rating of 72.8 and a QBR of 50. Mitch had a QB rating of 93.5 and a QBR of 61.

It's undeniable that Alex Smith is a downgrade from Mitch.

Nagy will have success with any other qb that is not Mitch b/c Nagy is an offensive guru, a qb whisperer and Mitch is hot garbage. When will you idiots realize it doesn’t matter who the qb is, Nagy will turn that guy into mvp. Unless it’s Mitch, or Foles. or Alex Smith

Kick the tires, but he'd have to be plan C or D.
