Its not always what you get in return that kills you, its who you move and when is what runs the hot poker up your ass. He could have tried to trade Campbell earlier, making an opening for Buff and Ladd. Who knows, maybe he tried but failed...regardless, it didnt happen. He decided that Hjalmarsson was a "must" keep and matched the Special person offer sheet San Jose gave him....if he doesnt he's got $ for Niemi and Niemi makes the Hawks endless goalie problem go away. He finally does move Campbell but blows all the extra cap room it provided on a pathetic group of old, slow and useless shit (Mayer being the lone exception). Ben Eager didnt break anyone's piggy bank but he saw fit to let him walk to save a few nickels on another enforcer who is a kickass fighter but should be in a boxing ring and NEVER have skates on his feet. As for the Skille for Frolik/Salak deal, I guess the jurys still out till Salak plays but you can flip a coin on the other two...they both are horrible.
I will give him this, the Barker deal was a good one as Leddy will be a very good player someday and Barker is an injury prone stiff....and Versteeg, I cant fault him there as I dont think anyone saw Versteeg as much more that supplemental player.
Overall, Bowman's been mediocre at best. The bottom line, is that he needs to either step up or step OUT.
