This will be a thread for spring training games. Not just Cubs, but the whole league.

Excited to watch some baseball today!

Liriano looks good for Pitt.

Houston already cranking home runs. They got a fun team.

Lol. Pierce Johnson likes the new ball park. Trout just hit a ball 409 feet to dead center. Just stayed in.

Old man Ross with the play of the day. Bunt foul pop up. He lays out for it. Gets it. Jumps to his feet and throws the runner out at second trying to tag. I respect the hell out of that play.

Oh and Neil Ramirez looked pretty good. The hit was on a big swing that fell short. Fowler got fooled on the play.

Nice! Russell turns on an inside and a little above the belt fastball for a 2 run shot. It was a no doubter. He crushed it.

Baez did Baez things. He got jammed on an inside fastball but was able to muscle it to left for a hit. He stole second immediately. Then, advanced on a wild pitch before Russell bomb.

Oh interesting note, this is an Angels broadcast I am watching. Victorino has flied out twice to left. Lazy fly balls. The announcers mentioned thats the same thing he did last year for the Angels. He is not finishing his swings and just hitting soft pop ups.

looking forward to seeing how Ramirez is throwing the ball. im pulling for him to make the roster, his arm is just too talented not to IMO

I would think the Cubs are going to give him every opportunity. He should get stronger as spring goes on

Bleacher nation was saying Cahill threw 94-95. That's very interesting. Not entirely sure what their long term plans are with him(likely still bullpen) but if he's able to keep that up over even like 5 innings Hammel may have a fight for his job. It could lead to a some what interesting situation too if he does lose out. Some team surely will have a starter go down during spring training and for what Hammel is he's pretty cheap. You're not going to get a top 100 prospect for Hammel at this point in the season but wouldn't shock me if you can pull a Candelario/Jimenez prospect for him.

I haven't seen a Cubs broadcast but if he popping 95. I would guess they will keep him in the pen. He chose the Cubs. I would think they told him his position before signing and I don't think its in the rotation.

Yeah I imagine that too but I can dream of him in the rotation too.

They apparently told him he would have an opportunity at the rotation. It's a crowded picture but performance sorts it all out.

Eh, unless injury, I always thought the rotation was set. I know you don't say that because competition is great, but I just think barring injury, they are gonna roll like last year plus Lackey.

Rex Brothers looked positively awful yesterday. I know it's early but if he doesn't look to make the club it wouldn't shock me to see them trade for another lefty for the pen. I suppose they could roll the dice with Richard as well.

I'm thinking they would at least wait til Mid May before trading for a piece like that. Get a better idea of what they truly have. ST, especially early ST numbers are so hard to judge.

Yea, he was extremely wild. The Cubs, in general, played absolutely awful. You like fundamentals. That was not the game to watch. I know its early spring, but Im sure Joe said some things after it.

Split squad today.
