Why haven’t the Bears tagged him yet? It’s the obvious thing to do.
Tag him and use him.
Or
Tag him and trade him.
Regardless a tag is needed.

Because there is no rush to tag. There is plenty of time.

Not many team in the league have executed that option so far. It’s not even a week old.

Usually you won’t see players tagged until the official deadline. I believe it is March 9th.

Okay gotcha. Guess they are waiting to see how the QB situation plays out.

It has been reported at least once that the Bears are going to place the franchise tag on Allen Robinson II with the intention of trading him. I guess we'll see.

They have to have the cap space to designate a player for the franchise tag.

Honestly don't see the point in tagging Robinson without a QB. Its like buying rims when you don't have a car.

Stop with this! This analogy is inaccurate as shit. Rims are a luxury for a car. Robinson is not a luxury of a GOOD offense. He (or similar talent) is a necessity. You have 8 more days to tag Robinson, you have 16 days until free agency and trading is allowed. If you don't tag Robinson and lose him and then 8 days later you get a QB, then what the hell you gonna do?

Well, it could be harder to get one without him. We have the car. It just needs repair.

You have to be in compliance of the cap on the first day of the league year, March 17. Tagging Robinson puts the Bears over the cap, which means they would have to clear cap space by cutting some players prior. And If Robinson holds out, maybe the Bears lose players they otherwise might have kept?

While I don't disagree that keeping Robinson is pivotal to staying competitive. I can appreciate the sentiment that Pace is known to go out and go all in on something assuming he fixed the other. Going out and getting Mack assuming he had fixed the offense and particularly QB only to realize that mortgaging all the picks to get a big piece for the defense fell apart when his assumed fixes weren't real. We don't need Pace thinking he has some solution coming at QB (which doesn't appear clear at all) and have him make decisions on that assumption which leave us with major holes preventing us from being competitive. I think Robinson should be tagged because even if management thinks they have some master plan for QB via draft or trade, I don't think they should be confident at all in it working.

The cap hasn't even been announced yet. And if it is what it is projected to be, they are already over the cap. They gotta cut people before March 17 to even function as an organization. And there's about 0 chance the Bears are like, "Damnit, Robinson is holding out. If only we held on to Buster Skrine!"

It's not even about staying competitive in 2021. It's long-term. Long-term the Bears are trying to build a good offense to get with the current times. The best way to build a good offense is to have good players on offense. The Bears currently have maybe 3 good players on offense (Robinson for sure, Montgomery and Whitehair at G may or may not be). Going down to 2 good players doesn't help the long-term goal, especially when the likely replacement doesn't come until 2022 (comp pick if he walks or you have 6 weeks to get ARob to sign the tag he doesn't want and trade him) unless it's at the expense of another good player (using early pick or FA money on WR instead of QB/OL).
