A coach has to be able to handle players in the right way or they will get run out of town. That's just a fact.

The isse was though that the FO wasn't allowing Skiles to handle the players. They caved to Wallace early on, cut off Skiles balls and basically gave Wallace free run on that team. With a young team that can't happen because the younger guys start to lose respect for the coach. It's not a coincidence that as soon as Wallace showed up that there started to be issues in the locker room.

There werent many quality locker room guys during the end of the Skiles era. Would have been nice to have Rose and a more mature Noah.

Yeah that season was bad from the start. Deng and Gordon turned down contracts. The Kobe, Gasol rumors. Then in the locker room you had guys like: Wallace, Noah, and Tyrus Thomas who were all clowns or dickheads. That team had no leadership. Gordon had an eye on a pay day. Hinrich struggled all season and Deng got hurt and started a regression that would last two seasons. Just a perfect storm of shit that Skiles took the fall for really.

It is when you are discussing the ability of the FO staff to hire a good coach when it's an opinion held by many that firing Skiles was a mistake...Also...I don't recall Skiles being fired 5 years ago.
