The schools in my area have not had the students come in since the 17th...last Monday they had off for MLK day, Tuesday there was a threat of snow to come in the early afternoon (didn't really start snowing until 5pm), Wednesday and Thursday schools were closed because of the snow (I can halfway understand it, even when it only snowed maybe 3 inches tops), but then they gave the kids off Friday (most of the snow/ice has been cleared at this point), and then today was a scheduled teacher work day so the students had today off too. I'm curious how badly the braintrust in Richmond will overreact if an actual snow storm comes through the area and drops more than a few inches of snow. Gotta love living in the south, everyone panics at the idea of snow or any inclement weather.

GP..If they talk about a dusting of snow on TV, they close the schools here....The kids wind up having to use half their summer vacation on make up days...lol

Shoot, the winter I moved out of Illinois, 1976-1977 was awful.

This is the worst winter on record here since THAT winter, '77...

You're in NC right? Unless they have changed it, after a certain amount of school days missed they just say **** it and just scrap the make up days. I remember the blizzard of '94 that hit us, which was an actual blizzard...we missed so much school they said we didn't have to use makeup days. But that was when we had over a foot of snow fall, what we just got didn't even make it difficult for my beagles to go piss outside.

Too cold to work so it's time for a walk. 6 minute walk gets me to the U of I woods and it's beautiful anytime of the year. If I'm not back in an hour I'm dead.

Every school I know of is closed tomorrow and Wednesday. Except my daughter's. They like going against the grain.

When I was in grade school, middle school, and high school it seemed like they closed for nothing..... it often felt like someone could have of shot up the school and killed all the teachers and the admins would have been like "Stfu kids.... step over the bodies and go read some shit"

We once had 3/4 of a day of high school where a pipe had busted on the 2nd floor of the building and was flooding part of the 2nd floor.... they told kids to go around the water to different stairwells for a couple periods and then finally when my last period of the day was coming up they said they were letting everyone out early, so it took 30 mins to get outta the damned parking lot lol.

I remember watching the school closings run along the screen when I would get up and eat breakfast and see like hundreds of schools closed..... but not our schools..... naw.... lol I crutched it on ice and through snow many a time my Junior/Senior years.

Public schools are pretty much by county when it comes to closings around here. My daughter's private school seems to do the opposite of public school on purpose.

Just got the email, I'll have another day off tomorrow!

I hope you do something productive with your day. Maybe make yourself a nice breakfast, write emails to loved ones, prepare your taxes, dislike bearsbud, start reading a new novel?

My kid’s school district has a max of 5 make-up days. Anything past that they don’t worry about. Tomorrow (which they’ve already called off) will be either 5 or 6.

My oldest is a senior so she doesn’t have to make up any days.
