One of the best things the 80's brought us was a Michael McDonald solo career

I would argue punk didn't really "die", it just evolved.(for example a punk band like The Cure, stayed "punk" but went darker and helped create goth rock. But I see the point.

You also didn't mention Michael Jackson in relation tot he early 80's. Obviously a huge moment/album(s).

The Police were the opposite end of The Cure as it relates to punk. Raw...yet sophisicatedly produced. There were many New Wave stuff around that time I didn't care for (probably the more synthesised acts), but Joe Jackson & Squeeze broke on the scene around that time...which are my more 2 favorite artists/bands that came out of the 80's.

I like the song.... The radio is now killing it like they do with every song that is good (not too many out there anymore). The video is pretty bad but the song is good. And like others have said the 80's were an incredible decade for music, so many different things and styles going on everyone can find something they like. Unlike today's garbage where it's either auto tune or some crappy version of "rock". There are a few hidden gems in music today and this song is one of them.

I cannot groan this post enough.

Do you remember how like 10 years ago all of the sudden Michael McDonald became popular again? He would appear in phone commercials and sing anthems at sporting events. It was terrible.

AT&T...reach out and touch someone...

What does any of this have to do with "not many people liking 80's music"?

It probably doesn't b/c the comment was based upon my own preferences both then and now. While I preferred creativity/raw talent, the GF's were dragging me to Cinderella concerts...hence the term girl bands.
