Anyone else feel a bit of sadness watching this great team?

This is obviously the best Cubs team I've ever seen. Many consider it to be the best Cubs team in the 108 year drought. I think about my family and friends who've passed, that were die hard Cubs fans. I believe that most likely the drought ends this year. But even if it doesn't, it absolutely will in the near future, because we will be post season fixtures for close to the next decade. With that, I constantly think of my grandfather, mother, and cousin-all of whom were true blue Cubs fans. I feel sad that they did not get to see this team.

Meh. I get it, but I personally don't have any dead loved ones who were Cubs fans. My dad raised me to be a Cubs fan. He then retired, moved to Arizona, and somehow turned traitor and is now a Diamondbacks fan. He's old, though, and not at all tech-savvy, so he can only watch what's on his local cable and he generally doesn't use the internet at all so I kind of understand how he really couldn't follow the Cubs from Arizona. We had a mild rivalry at the beginning of the year until it was obvious that the Diamondbacks sucked balls this year and the Cubs...didn't. Now he's rooting for the Cubs, but I think it's only for me.

Also, we haven't won yet. We're exactly at the point we were at last year before the Mets swept us out. So when all is said and done, our children and children's children could be saying the same thing about us if the Cubs don't get it done soon. I would bet money the Cubs will win the WS within the next 5 years, but I'm a realist; we still can't take anything for granted and there's still a 61% chance it won't happen this year. Still have to get through the Dodgers or Nats, and that will be a tough series. Everyone (including the players from what I heard) seems to feel that they just beat their toughest opponent, but that's dangerous thinking - at least it is for the players.

Actually, every time I hear these players or theo interviewed and theo brings up the BS curse, I think about the people that suffered thru this all. Right now its like some pristine organization moved into town with a new club. I would like to see them acknowledge more of the past.

Yes. My close friend passed during Cubs-Cards last October (Monday marked one year), and my brother passed away in January.

They were the two I would first talk to to celebrate, grumble, laugh when discussing Cubs good or bad.

But I am enjoying this ride, and hoping they get it done now. My dad is 89, and won't see many more seasons.

I enjoy it, and "tellmy brother" how much he'd enjoy this right now. ?

Yes, it's absolutely sad to me that my dad isn't here to see this.

I guess I just try to remember that every high and low I get is because of this fandom he gave me so it's still something I very much do share with him now and for the rest of my life.

I'm sorry for the loss of your brother, TL. I'm glad you can tell him about how good they are this year.

A friend of ours, a huge Cubs fan from deep in central Illinois Cardinals country, passed away from ALS 2 years ago. He was as big a fan as you'll find and we would talk often about Theo's plan and how he hoped he would live to see it come to fruition. Sadly he didn't. I couldn't help but think of him the other night in that 9th inning.

Not long after he passed the Cubs organization did something very special for this family and brought his two boys to Wrigley for a game and the opportunity to meet some of the players. When they got to the ball park this is what these young men saw:

Yup, sad that my dad couldn't see his Cubs team reach this level of success. He was born and raised in Chicago, took me to my first Cubs game. While he wasn't a rabid sports fan, he would have enjoyed these last two seasons a lot.

While this team is so fun-loving and the good times are indescribable -- this journey is chock-filled with emotion. Yes, it's just a game -- but it's not. The Cubbies have played such a huge part in the lives of so many. I get chocked up thinking about us possibly winning and how so many people have waited so long for it. And the many people who didn't live to see it -- from fans to legends like Ron Santo and Ernie Banks.

A lot of tears will be shed if/when it finally happens. A lot of people taking trips to the graves of loved ones to have a moment with them. I can't think of a more meaningful championship in sports.

I don't use up my prayers on the outcome of sporting events -- but man, I've sure thought about it.

Thanks, guys, for the kind words.

If the cubs win, I will be happy, sad, and maybe a little mad. But happy.

Why do you want to acknowledge some BS that doesn't even exist?

I've been saying all year that this Cubs team will go down in history as one of the best ever. That can only happen when we win the WS. Its going to happen fellas. You realize that this team has come from behind so many times. Its has been such a joy to watch these guys.

I don't really feel anything yet. We've all been here before. We've all been closer before. Get me there, then I'll let you know how I feel.

Not to be insensitive, but people who have passed don't really care about the 2016 cubs. They don't care about anything.

Oh yeah? The Ghost of Harrey Carey was in my house this morning. I had just poured a cup of foldgers instant with two splenda's and a touch of almond milk. All of a sudden a gust of wind blew into the kitchen and knocked over the coffee. I grabbed a scott towel to clean it up and incredulously - the words "HOLY COW" were spelled out in liquid.

No way "HOLY COW" would ever be spelled out in liquid containing almond milk.
