The thunderstorms with 100 mph gusts knocked out our power late Sunday in Rural Rock Island county. By noon yesterday every generator over 2000watts was bought with 2 hours of us so I purchased one at a Menards in South Bend Indiana and drove 4 hrs each way to get it home. The whole house is powered now and I keep feeding gas every 8 hours into this growling beast as we wait for our grid to get fixed.

Anyone else?

You are one of almost 200k residential customers.

I have spent the last 2 days doing triage on down areas and spotting generators for our plant... back to back 18 hour days.

Hopefully the area that is down by you is large. They appear to be hitting the outages by customer count rather than easiest to hardest.
I am seeing etrs as far out as saturday.

Haha yeah I realize Im not the only one out of power I was wondering about others that come here.

thanks for the insight. We always planned on getting a backup generator but kept putting it off. Procrastination cost me eight hours of driving a full day of getting this up and running

Listen to this shit story. My power was restored after about 6 hours. There's plenty of people around town without it tho and the timeframe is Saturday afternoon.

My brother lives north of Des Moines in a massive apartment complex with my other brother. They are on an 18 month lease. Probably 6 months into it. These buildings are brand fucking new. 12 of them. We are talking about alot of people. He received a call around 5 PM tonight saying that they are evicting every resident. No notice. Nothing. Needs to be out tonight is what they said. They haven't had power for two days. There was some roof damage to a couple buildings, but nothing crazy.

I'm completed mind fucked right now. He called me and just asked if he could store some shit and stay at my place which is fine, but haven't talked to him since. I can imagine there is a massive mob at the leasing office right now. Can't wait to hear how it ends. I imagine there will be lawsuits. It costs money to move/store all your shit.

Another reason to own not rent If you can. Sucks for your brothers.

I totally agree. Normally, renters say it is an advantage because you aren't responsible for any damage. Well, not so great in this situation lol. At least as a homeowner you have insurance for major repairs.

I can't wrap my brain around this. They had to uncover from the storm damage some major structural damage or defective work that puts tenants at risk from when they were built. Only thing I can think off. I saw pictures, it just looked like typical roof damage.

Imagine needing a generator in 2020 when you could just have solar panels and a tesla whole home battery.

I love people that have solar- their systems by and large are newer, automatic and more dependable.
If I have a neighborhood of equipment that drops out, the solar power houses stay up and running.
At a glance of my computer screen I can see their shit is up and running, therefore my shit is up and running, and I dont have to wait for the com ed site to update or send a crew- i know all is well.
They save me a ton of time.

I'm looking into solar panels when my house needs a new roof, which is still a decade away unless I get storm damage. But gives me plenty of time to investigate it, and hopefully prices come down more.

irony. We parked the boat and left it so that we would be safe from hurricane season only to come to Illinois and get hit by hurricane force winds.
Don't jinx me bro. I didn't have AC for like 3 days and just got it back.

I am interested as well- I might look in to one of those one stop companies that do the rebates and install and all that paperwork.

Our power is restored. We used our new generator wired directly to our house for about 24hrs this time. Next time we are ready immediately and that gives me some peace of mind.
