Our power is restored. We used our new generator wired directly to our house for about 24hrs this time. Next time we are ready immediately and that gives me some peace of mind.

Did you have any issue with draw or popping breakers?
I have a 2500w inverter that barely runs 2 coffee makers, sump pump and fridge.

No issues. Here is my system.

7500w(10000w surge) generator—> Outside wall outlet With 30 amp breaker—> 30 amp breaker on inside electric panel.

I have to turn off the main breaker on the panel to isolate us from the power grid while using the generator.

I gutted this 100 year old farm house last year and rewired It entirely before drywalling. All lights are pot light LEDs and our appliances are new and energy efficient. We were able to use almost everything except the air conditioning.

We used
lights
Well pump
Water heater
Sump pump
Led tv
Computer
Refrigerator
Bathroom fans
Device chargers
3 ceiling fans

The outside 30amp breaker tripped once when a hair dyer was used haha. We had a talk about that and why that little thing is so power hungry...

All in all Im happy with our system for about $1000. (It helps to have an electrIcian in the family. ) I could have went with a more robust generator on a bigger circuit to power the AC and hair dryer but the cost would have almost been 3x what I spent.

<3 goes out to you guys roughing it while the grid is patched up.

My solar panels were absolutely destroyed, so I can't even brag on that. Not even sure what hit them, just random debris. Usually when there is an outage, I still have it as a backup. Basically left with *calculated* 6 hours of backup battery that was used strictly for fridge, recharge phone and a few lights. My cells are showing their age, I'm an early solar adopter for this area.

I have to play a series of waiting games to get insurance/replacement parts because of Covid and other fun events. Expecting it to take 9 months due to back orders, and being stupid to reinstall solar in winter months more due to shorter days than uncomfortable installation in the cold. Whole thing is a mess.

Other than that, we got power back on last night, so all is not lost. But that is the shit I've been dealing with, In-Laws house had 2 trees lifted into their garage so I actually feel like my problems are petty compared to the shit some people are going through. Especially the people who had it rough this year, parked their car outside with no insurance trying to bounce back, and now have to be at the mercy of renters insurance to at least get them enough of something so they can at least get to a job if they land back on their feet.
